I purchased a plumeria stock last year, and it did fine until I set the pot out last summer. When I was back there this January, the plumeria folks said it was because I had it in a clay pot, and that I should use plastic. I purchased another one, and it is already sprouting! The one last year did not do that for nearly 6 weeks. I am hopeful I can get this to bloom this time. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Diane, thanks to Tulirose's efforts (searching for links on kiwi's thread), here's a link to a thread by Marlasmom on Plumeria that she bought at Epcot. :)

You might want to PM her, if she doesn't see this thread in the next few days.

I've never grown it but would love to try. Where are they selling it at Epcot? Do they only sell it during the flower show? I'd love to pick one up next time they're gorgeous. Good luck on a great find.
Did a little search and came up with this site that has some infohttp://www.io.com/~jrm/plum005.htm

I got hooked on plumeria at Epcot. They sell it all year long at the place that has the garden tour by boat.

Having said that, the plumeria at Epcot is so poor compared to what I have been buying on-line at Maui Gardens and Florida Natural Colors. Both have websites and send HUGE healthy cuttings. I lost about half of what I bought at Disney - have not lost one of the others.

I have never bought one there, but since I live here in Hawaii they have them everywhere. Our tree is really big, and we make leis with the plumeria flowers. Good luck with your plant.

I have a total of 3 plumeria from Epcot. The first one I purchased was white and I had a bloom stalk that bloomed continually last summer. That one was rooted in a clay pot and transferred to larger plastic. I purchased that one Jan 2003. I purchased a red and yellow in Aug 2003. They really did not have enough of a growing season to bloom last year, however the yellow one has 3 bloom stalks that are starting to grow over the winter, but the red one just has leaves. They are both in clay pots. I will be watching and waiting this growing season. I have heard the pinks and reds take longer to bloom. I love visiting the Land to see the plumerias.

Well, now it is 6 weeks out from the purchase, and the new plumeria has 2-3 inch leaves on both stocks. I am keeping it under the grow light, and can hardly wait to move it to my new log home in June. I love the smell of the plumeria in Hawaii, and hope to have blooms this time! Do all of you let them go dormant, or do you keep them going all year?
