With the sun in Florida I am sure you can cook things in no time :)

I built a solar cooker a few years ago as a project, and have never really used it since, but after trying to budget a trip...need I say more ;)

I have also found some great recipes on line like
New York style Cheesecake
Pot Roast
EXTREME GARLIC CHICKEN DRUMS

We made these when I was in Scouting. They work OK if you position them correctly in strong sun. It takes a lot of experimenting with your design to get just the right results.

My questions would be:

How would you get your solar cooker to WDW? To me, it would be a waste of valuable packing space. The size needed to cook a meal is not small.

Where do you intend to leave a solar cooker, in the sun, for hours on end? I cannot imagine that there is anywhere in WDW that you could leave something like that unattended for very long. They just look too unusual.

I think one of these is best left for camping trips. You might want to consider using the microwave ovens in your resort food court or booking an off-site hotel with a kitchenette to save on food costs.

If I drive I am sure I can put it in the bed of my truck, and in a WDW hotel parking lot no one would bother it.

.....you are pulling our collective legs...right?

Seriously...did you just finish reading the thread about refillable mugs?

How big is it? Would it fit on the balcony/patio of your resort? Depending on wher eyou stay, there might be enough sunlight.

With all do respect, while this would not be my first choice, I don't see where it's necessary to question this poster. I frequent this board alot and I've seen some strange things..strange by my standards only mind you...from bringing crockpots, to heating tubs of BBQ meat in Ziploc baggies with hot water from the coffee maker to making baco bit and mayonase sandwiches to bringing rammen noodles to well, you get the idea.

I say whatever works for you is good especially if it helps us get to the most magical place on earth :earsboy:

No it's a legit question

Hey, who needs a Solar Cooker when you can probably fry your food on the hood of your car in that hot Florida sun. LMAO

(just kidding)

I have never even HEARD of a "solar cooker"! I guess I am out of the loop! If you think it will be helpful on your trip....bring it. But I would worry that the sky would cloud up, and ruin my dinner so that we would have to go to a restaurant anyway, and then the food in the cooker would be wasted $$. Do you have a SLOW cooker (crock pot)? It seem like that would be a safer bet....but then again, what do I know about solar cookers.....NOTHING!!!LOL!!!

I would think you would need to cook outside? Maybe people would leave your food alone but I 'm not so sure about the insects and animals[I'll leave that up to your collective imaginations!! but remember this is the land of Alligators]

But to for the budget part of your question here are 2 links to good budget hotels with good reputations here

1# this one is cheap enough to save you money to eat out
http://www.magicorlando.com/links.htm

2# this one combines cheap with your need to cook your own food with a kitchen

hope this helps
OH!!! PS You may want to stay at Fort Wilderness-a WDW camp ground-where your cooker would be more appropriate than a Resort room. You might want to check out the Camping At WDW board...here is a link
