We just purchased a Camelbak from Galyan's for our trip to the World and were wondering if anyone has ever used one in the parks before? Ours is a full backpack with a 1 1/2 liter capacity (we drink a lot of water). How did you like using it? Did you feel you used it a lot, or not really enough to warrant filling it with water? We are using it as a backpack, too, for sweatshirts, change of clothes, etc.
Thanks in advance!

I've used it while hiking and camping but never at a park. Will they even allow it in? Also, carrying a gallon + of water around sounds like a hefty job! haha. but of course, very convenient. How big is the cargo space in the backpack?

We brought one when we went in July, and it was a lifesaver! They don't have any problem with you bringing one in, just make sure you open all the pockets when they check it. We used it ALL the time--it was so worth it! It really isn't all that bad to carry around--no worse than a regular backpack, really.

We just got back two weeks ago and our CamelBak backpack was AWESOME!! It was wonderful to have cold water any time someone needed a quick drink. My dh didn't mind carrying it at all and had no trouble at the security checks. Definitely worth the bucks.

We used ours in December of 2001 for a family of 5, and it was wonderful It saved a lot of time, and we had no problems

I have used a camelback for my last two trips. The first one I shared it with my you son. This past trip I had a 3 liter one as did my husband, my older son had a two liter one and my young son had a 1.5 liter beltbag. We each carried our own ponchos and whatever else we wanted to carry. We never bought a bottle of water and with so much water we hardly bought any soda. They not only kept use hydrated they also saved us money.

If you like your water cold and you are running out of cold just stop by any counter serve place and ask for a cup of ice and put it in your bladder.

Thanks Everyone for the replies! I was wrong - ours is a 3L. It is a full backpack - as large as a regular backpack that your kids would use for school - and has an extra outside pocket.
Yes, it does sound heavy to carry, but thank God my DH will be carrying it for us. He's usually the one buying all the stuff, anyways, so I figure he can carry it. He's okay with that, though, and is used to carrying a lot in the pack - when we came back from Denver one year, he filled a backpack with a 12 pack of different microbrews, so I don't think 3L will be a problem for him.
And, it's nice to know that you guys haven't had a problem bringing it into the parks already full. I was a little concerned about that, but figured I could just get ice and water from somewhere in the parks.
Again, thanks for all the replies!
