My sister and I want to take a vacation and visit Greece and would love some tips on what to visit and where to stay, etc. One place that I know I absolutely have to visit is Santorini.

I've never been to Greece. But, I have been to a Greek festival. Gryos are pretty good.:thumbsup2

Seriously, I'd love to see Santorini too. Especially the ancient Minoan City of Akrotiri. That has to be awesome. Atlantis! You know Santorini is about 200 miles or so from mainland Greece?

I have been to Greece, but it was many years ago on my after college backpack through Europe tour. I don't think you'd want to stay where I stayed - mostly youth hostels!

I wasn't that impressed with Athens, but I wasn't an age where much impressed me. I did like the Acropolis, but it was a very hot day.

I did adore Santorini - loved it there. It was just an incredibly beautiful island with very friendly people. I always think back to it being the most beautiful place that I've ever gone.

Yes, but only Athens. Very busy, densely populated but beautiful. Must see the Acropolis and the Parthenan and the shopping is fun as well as the Tavernas. Want to go back and do the Greek Islands ..perhaps next year.
Only thing that disheartened me, all the poor dogs roaming the streets:guilty:

My son lived on the Island of Crete, Greece this past summer(June-Aug). He is an Art History student studying (through his college here in the USA) at the "Classical School of American Studies in Athen". He was able to tour all over Athens as well.
He absolutely loved Greece and all the sights. He said the city is beautiful and the Islands are fabulous. Here is a picture of him sitting a top of the City of ATHENS!!!

DH and I honeymooned in Greece in 2004. It was very interesting and we look forward to going back. Aside from Athens and the Acropolis (we spent 3 days touring there, could have easily spent more), we did a day tour of Delphi, home of the Oracle. It was absolutely amazing.

When we go back we plan on touring the Greek Isles, skiing up north, visiting Macedonia (Mt. Olympus) and the Sanctuary of Asklepios. We had a fabulous time. Side note, do not plan on driving anywhere in Greece. I have driven in many cities at rush hour (NYC, DC, Philly, London (well not actually driven there though)) and that is nothing compared to the way they drive in Greece :scared1:. I was terrified (and we only rode in the taxis).

It's been many years since I was in Greece, but I LOVED Corfu.

Greece is incredible and beautiful. Make sure you visit the National Museum and go pub crawling in Plaka on Friday/Saturday nights.
