Anyone ever ask the kitchen to heat up toddler food?

I've tried this once near our house - and they were willing to do it (it was a nicer restaurant). Gerber makes toddler food - trays of some type of pasta plus a veggie or cans of pasta - all of which goes in the microwave for 30 sec. and is then ready to serve. Since my son has a dairy allergy it's easier for us to bring this food and ask them to "cook" it for us. Has anyone done this at Disney before? Do you think the chefs would be willing? It's so simple - and it would be for my 16 month old - since it's a pain to have him eat off of our plates - I LOVE my dairy!

I would think you would have no problem doing that. I guess every restaurant has a microwave, right? That would be my only concern - maybe some of the higher end places don't believe in microwaving anything! ;)

ive worked in many restarants, i would never say no to heating food. just remember how you ask us to cook it is exactly how it would be cooked. it you say 15 seconds, it will be cooked for 15 seconds, im not going to try to see if its the right temp. so check it may come out too hot, dont get mad at the server. our microwaves are different than yours.

ive never seena restaurant that didnt microwave something, even if its just sauces. or hot desserts.

That's what I was worried about when I asked at the place by us! I should assume that the Quick Service Places WON'T do this - right? (Of course, that's where I'll have the harder time figuring out what to feed him!)

Good point! Last time it came out of the kitchen HOT! and I just had to have him wait a bit longer1

If you're in the parks, the Baby Centers might have a microwave. We only used the MK one to change a diaper and DD didn't need warm formula. But they might have one. You could have one parent go there while the other orders and you should all be about done (and back to where you're eating) around the same time. And if it was too hot, it won't be by the time you get back either.

But this is more for CS than TS as it would be cold by the time your food came (though that seems to be how our DD likes it :scared: ).

We are not aloud to take any "outside" food into the kitchen. I can bring you hot water to "heat" a bottle or make cereal or let you know where there is a microwave to use. Too much liability if something goes wrong.

I always thought restaurants were not usually allowed to bring outside food into their kitchen due to liability reasons. Makes sense to me!

We actually did this at Ariel's Grotto in California Adventure park and the waitress told us no that she could not take any outside food into the kitchen, we were thinking what we are paying $37 dollars a plate(there was 10 in our party) and you cannot stick this in the micro for 25 secs, but you know with lawsuits now days they are very careful. She brought us a bowl of hot water to soak the little gerber meal in which of course did not work very well.

ive never worked in a kitchen that had that rule. we will not cook anything you bring into the food we serve, but ive always heated food up for people.

I would call the special needs food person (not sure of the number I am sure someone has it here) explain the allergies and ask...it never hurts to ask in advance so you can be more prepared.

Sorry, it is a Disney policy that we cannot heat up food. There is the option of using the microwaves at the baby changing stations. Alot of CSR locations in the hotels have microwaves that you can use. It is a huge pain for you I am sure, but they are pretty strict about that policy.

Another option is to have the chef make something that is allergy friendly, they are more than accomidating when it comes to special orders.

My best suggestion for you is to bring things that don't need to be heated when dining in TSR.

The baby centers have stoves and microwaves. Maybe you can warm the food up at the baby center while the rest of your party goes to the restaurant. The you can meet up with them or feed the child at the center prior to sitting down at the restaurant

Another idea is to try to transistion your child to eating the toddler meals at room temp. Most toddlers really do not care. I bought these for DGS when he was younger and we never heated them. In fact we never heated any baby food or his bottles and it was so much easier to travel and eat out with him.
