I tried it years ago, but didn't like it.
I usually use the sugar in the raw ( the stuff in the brown box)....so when I went to pick up a box I noticed they have Stevia in the raw packets, so I got some.
one packet is very sweet , I can use one 3 times for my coffee. I just put a tiny bit in.
but I notice sometimes a faint licorice aftertaste.
anyone else notice this?

I use stevia sometimes. It is very sweet. Some brands I've tried have a bitter aftertaste and I didn't like it. But Sweet Leaf is the knid I use now and it doesn't seem to have any aftertastes, at least to me. What brand are you using?

where do you get sweet leaf?
the first kind I tried years ago was from trader joes.

this one is Stevia in the Raw ( thats the brand) same as Sugar in the Raw brand. the sugar in the raw is the brown box, its turbinado sugar, this is the same makers, and is in a green box.

I first bought it in a local health food store, but I've ordered it from Amazon before. It was cheaper that way.

I haven't tried the Trader Joes kind nor the In the Raw. The first ones I tried came from the diabetes section of the grocery store and they were terribly bitter. Somebody I used to workout with tipped me off to the Sweet Leaf kind. I liked it so I stuck with it.

I LOVE Truvia. I carry it with me wherever I go. No aftertaste at all and I am very sensitive to it.

Costco started carrying Purvia (sp?) so I might try that since it would be cheaper.

Stevia's taste can really vary by manufacturer and how the process the plants so you may have to try different manufacturers.

The Trader Joes one was very bitter.

this one is good, if I just put a tiny bit in my coffee. if I put too much I can taste the licorice like aftertaste.

looks like our local health food store has this according to the locator on the site :thumbsup2
I may try it when this box of stevia is gone

I have seen the Truvia. Good to know that it doesn't have that bitter aftertaste.

The In the Raw one has either dextrose or maltodextrin in it depending on how it's packaged. What else is in the Truvia? Sweet Leaf has Inulin (FOS) which I prefer over the dextrose and maltodextrin.

I'll agree that you don't need as much w/ stevia, as it's very sweet, and that there's no aftertaste with Truvia.

good catch. I didn't see that on the box when I was in the store ( no reading glasses with me :lmao:) but the box says dextrose, and I also would prefer the inulin too.

I bought some...it's gross. I prefer Splenda...

But I do try not to use it too often anyway. I bought it for company, or when I want that extra cup of coffee/tea but not the extra calories of sugar!

I use Truvia in my coffee sometimes, and carry it in my purse since most restaurants don't have it. I really like it.

I use Stevia as a sweetener for my coffee at home and at work. I also have found some sodas made with Steva and they are all good except for the cola flavored one. I would like to try some baking with it as well. I use stevia in the raw but have had others. I did not notice any licorice or bitter flavors. I would welcome the big companies out there to make products with it as opposed to Splenda or Equal.

I tried it and don't care for it. My sister-in-law carries it around with her and also started baking with it. She used to be a really good baker, but since she's gone the stevia and whole wheat route, her baked goods are awful. Even the kids won't eat them.

I much prefer sugar in the raw..Stevia breaks down with heat so that is why its bitter. I have tried every brand of Stevia out there and can only tolerate the kind in the bottle that is liquid. It's all very sweet too so a little goes a long way.

Nevermind. I got my sweeteners mixed up. I was thinking of Splenda. I like Splenda in diet sodas & beverages.

I would be interested in hearing from anybody that has used it in cooking. I haven't and don't know if it will behave the same as sugar. . .like besides just being sweet will it caramelize? When I cook I will use sugar, honey or agave. Agave is an excellent substitute as well. It's pricey, but my kids love it.

I happened across this one at the grocery store a few days ago and got some, and it is better than the other one I was using I don't taste much aftertaste at all.
:thumbsup2

I use Truvia sometimes because there have been coupons around for it that made it pretty cheap on sale. I am not fussy at all about my sweeteners - I buy whatever is cheapest. I just finished up a box of Truvia and opened a box of Splenda and I do have to agree that the Truvia is sweeter.
