Going forward, we will be using this thread as the "Official" DIS thread to discuss the topic of the Rent/Trade Board changes and comments here on the DVC Boards.

We will be limiting the topic to this thread so it may be more easily monitored as it has become a "Hot Topic". Thanks everyone!

Anyone else out there upset with the new posting rules for trading and or renting points? You need to have a minimum of 50 posts spread out over a 6 month period. For the casual member that occasionally rents points this isn't beneficial for me. I guess that shows why the number of postings for rent or trade is down. I don't always have the time to hang on the computer to get involved with these discussions. Be inerested in any feedback.

Posting on the R/T board is a perk for a member who contributes. If you had been on the boards for the last four or five months you would have known this.

if the board owners want to limit renting to members of the community rather than a free-for-all, that's their choice. their board, their rules.

there are other boards with different rules. folks who come to the DIS only for commercial purposes will probably migrate to one of them...

Obviously. Like I stated don't have time to hang and chit chat. Do have a life also. Oh well, found somewhere else to post.

i read the boards, but don't post much unless it's something I am very sure of so for people like us we loose out.

Nope, I like it. As someone who rents points, I think there is a better sense of security* if you are renting from someone who is an active member of the community.

* obviously not fail-safe.

The rules are the rules. I am a habitual lurker and I spend 20 minutes to an hour everyday on the disboards. I recently started posting more in case I would like to R/T even though I have no intentions at this time. It only seems fair, if you want to be a member then post, if you want to be a lurker then don't expect to be able to post only on the R/T board. Just my 2 cents.

Basically it does not make any difference as to Pro on Con. As stated this subject has been beat to death.

Best to accept it and deal or move on.

I actually kind of like the rule because it just adds to a feeling of security when renting from someone here on the disboards. You have the ability to get to know each other and well, the more postings that person has, the less like a stranger they seem to be, kwim?

I like the rule actually. I've rented points in the past and have to be honest I hate when I have a thread for $10 per point and someone who only signed up the day before strictly to rent their points has a thread for $7 or $8 just to unload their points quickly. I like knowing that it's now only for actual disboards users. I do feel bad for those are on the disboards and don't quite post enough to qualify. It happened to my friend just today. Even though he's been a member for a long time, his post count was too low.

Not everyone is outgoing or gregarious. As a previous poster said, for us newer members, we're still learning the ropes and don't always feel we have value to contribute when answers have already been given by far more experienced DVCers. I would hate to post some fluff just to make a post quota. That certainly doesn't add value.

The posts do not have to be just DVC related there are many other forums on the site.

I think you are right. My objection is that 50 posts in six months, for the average person, is a tremendous number of posts. Also, many members, including myself, have been around for 10 years. I've only averaged 70 posts per year, but clearly I have some staying power and a history behind me, as do many others.

As I've said before, I don't object to their being a bar, I just think it has been set way, way too high.

Gee, two posts a week is too much? Mississippian you're doing pretty good right now. At least 25 in the past six weeks. That averages four a week. :thumbsup2

Anyone who is a DVC member should be able to post comments about their home resort, a previous stay, any other DVC resort that they have stayed at, what movie they saw last weekend, about their favorite team, etc.

Great! Then all is well.

I agree with the new policy, by the way. I think the perk SHOULD be reserved for those who contribute to board discussions.

Wow, I have not been on here for a long time! I didn't realize there were new posting rules. Do you still have to contribute 50 posts in six months if you're a long time member and have several posts in the past?

If that is the case, I may have some extra points this year so i better get posting! Also, I notice there is an individual (David) renting points..... is there a minimum number of points he will accept?

Do I have to try; request a transfer to know if I have enough posts? I may need some points, but don't want to go through the hassle if my posts don't qualify.

The rule is fine by me - their board, their rules. Is there a way to find out how many posts you've made in the past 6 months? Just curious!
