Anyone else upset about Norway?

WOW, I'm reading on these posts that they used to have a VILLAINS character meal?? I would totally do that. I actually haven't done a character meal yet at WDW, but would actually consider the villains one. I hope they bring it back!

I thought about taking bets as to exactly when the Akershus lunch/dinner menu goes to a majority of typical American fare.

I'm totally with you on that - have you seen all the post from princess-lovers who hate menu and say that they will 'endure' the food to see the princesses???

Disappear, disappear!

i don't like the princesses much am going for the lamb and mashed rutabega. am glad i can still get my rutabegas am miffed they are changing a world showcase eatery to appease the stroller masses. geeze who do they think pays for all this???. supposed to be a family place not just a place for children. put norway back the way it was!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was also SO disappointed when I heard about the change. It's not just the addtion of the princesses that I'm cranky about--we actually LOVED the old smorgasbord--pickled fish and all. It was a delightful dining experience. I do not like the new menu--they got rid of all the good foods. I had a PS for Norway in June when we go--I'm cancelling it now. Don't have much left to choose from since we have the MYWplus dining package.
This is slightly off topic, but may be related--I'm also hearing that the stores along Main Street in MK now pretty much all sell the same (Disney) stuff. Is this true? If so, I'm thinking some Disney Powers-that-be are looking to homogenize the parks more and more--much to my dismay. While change can be good, there's something about not fixing that which ain't broke...

another thread just started on the food at Norway and how ppl won't like it - that's it, I'm done reading the Restaurant Thread - good bye.....

I didn't like it when the changed the buffet to family style and I don't like the character greeting thing even more. I think the whole character thing has gone overboard. But that's just my opinion. It seems, sometimes, that if Disney could they would tie every attraction and restaurant to some cartoon character or movie. Newsflash! Not every person who enjoys the parks has kids. There are adults out there who enjoy the parks and could care less if they can get a pic with some stranger in a costume. They know we will keep coming back so they do what they want.

If any place was going to have an princesses at every meal, you'd think it would be CRT

We ate at Akershus last week and were very disappointed. There is no buffet it is family style appetizers they call a taste of Norway and then you can chose off a very limited menu. There were 5 princesses and it was very crowded and crazy. The princesses spent very little time at the table and it was disorganized. The wait staff was not good either, they kept forgetting our sons mac and cheese and we repeatedly asked for more Norwegian food that finally came when we were ready to leave. DH spoke to a manager and asked why the change from the buffet and he said it was because people were missing the princesses while getting food and it would not change back. The princesses also didn't roam, they visited quickly and then went back into hiding until the next round of families came in to be seated. We ate at 1900 Park Fare last year and it was wonderful. We will stick with this until they get a Villains meal and a Boys meal.

We were also there last week. Hands down the biggest disappointment of the trip. Not worth the money. We didn't care for the food at all.

We used to eat at Akershus for lunch every single trip-- it was our favorite restaurant in all of WS. We were a bit disappointed when they took out the hot buffet, but this latest change seals the deal: we will NOT be returning.

It's bad enough that the princesses have taken over, but to change the menu to make it more "family friendly" is a slap in the face to the original intention of World Showcase.

Also, I don't have children, so I feel absolutely ridiculous at princess meals.

So disappointing.

Hey, even those of us who DO have kids would like a break from the kid crazy frenzy associated with character meals! ;)

My DH and I loved the old Akershus restaurant. Getting to try different Norwegian specialties on the buffet was a real treat and we were looking forward to introducing our DDs to Norwegian cuisine there since it is not your usual restaurant. My DD2 may like the Princesses, but I'm not doing a character meal at Norway now because of the change in menu. As a proud member of the stroller brigade I say bring back the old menu.

We discovered Akershus a while ago, and it quickly became a favourite. It was lovely to go somewhere quiet, and calm with good food. We made multiple visits for dinner within the same trip, however the restaurant was operating way below capacity. If it is now consistently very busy I guess that even though it will no longer be to our taste the change will be viewed as successful by Disney, and those guests who now have additional character meals.

Bring back the old Akershus, please. It was our favorite restaurant.
We ate there every trip and recommended it to all our friends who like to eat good food. The cold buffet, with the herring and salmon and salads and cheeses and breads, was my absolute favorite. The kids didn't like it the first few trips, but in the last few years had learned to appreciate the food. Everyone was very disappointed this year to learn about the all Princess, all the time, not all Norwegian buffet and we are not going. Alas, the days of Ringnes, aquavit and great food are not more. I'm just glad we ate there twice on our last trip.

Like many others, we were not atuned to the food in Norway. Rutabega and turnups? Yuck. And all the supporters seem to comment on the fact that it was quiet----meaning it was not attracting very many people...which made it a nice oasis, but not the kind of place that is giving a good return. Are we upset? Since we never went there, no. JHMO :cool1:

NO, Norway wasn't only "quiet" when it was empty. I've been there several times when it was full and it was still "saner" than most other restaurants and it had good food (turnips, cooked right, are delicious!). Bring back the OLD menu, please! There are too many character meals at other parks.

I,m sorry to see the way disney thinks about Norway and all its regulars. Go figure.

What's next, re-themeing all WS restaurant to character meals? Brother Bear characters in Canada, Belle & Beast in France, Aladdin & Jasmine in Morocco, Snow White in Germany, Mulan in China? Enough already...
