Anyone else tired of lugging around multiple cameras?

Usually when we go to Disney, we have our digital camera and our camcorder. I love recording our memories, but it can be such a pain! Well on our trip last month, we opted not to bring the Camcorder. We just brought the digital camera, which can also record short videos. I think it worked out perfectly for us and I'm satisfied with the amount of memories we recorded.

So do you always bring both a camera/digital camera and camcorder? Or just one? Or none at all?

For our first 3 trips together, my bf and I always brought both the digital camera and camcorder but on our last trip we just took the digital camera.

Our camcorder is little- you can fit it in a fanny pack- but I hated carrying it around and was always scared of dropping it/breaking it. And I hated bringing all the corders/charger with us to wdw.

I think we'll take it with us sometimes but not on every trip.

Last year we were guilty of bringing the camcorder, digital camera and regular camera. My shoulders have never ached more!! But, it was DH and DS first visit to the World and I wanted to capture all I could. This year it is just going to be the digicam. Nice and light and ready to go with little to now work :)

That is why I like my Handy Cam. It it a video recorder and a digital camera that I can use with one hand.

Since my DH never helps out with the cameras, I've been bringing only the digital for the past few years. I used to feel like I was missing something by not having the camcorder, but the digital takes short videos, so I have learned to be happy with that. :teeth:

I know what you mean. We also used the digital camera that took short video on our trip last year. It worked great for us. Now we are feeling we aren't getting enough video. Our video camera is over 10 years old and is huge. So now, we are looking at a video camera that will also take digital pictures. The price was pretty steep but should come down some before our trip next year.

I have been contemplating that myself. We have 3 digitals and a Camcorder ... and I am taking the little digital but haven't decided yet if I want to lug the camcorder around. i just forsee it not being used or being frightened of leaving it behind somewhere. We are also going on a cruise after MK...so space will be very limited in the car. Decisions decisions.

Our camcorder takes digital pix as well and it is small, so it is a great option for us. We do always carry around a disposable waterproof camera to take on some rides, have on hand for Donald's Boat and the waterparks. It is also good to use as a simple-use camera to hand off to a stranger to take a quick family shot for us or for our young kids to take a few pix.

My mom and I had this discussion today. I'm tired of lugging multiple cameras around the park. With two kids, we want lots of pictures, but we really need to cut back on cameras. We leave on Thursday and have packed three 35mm cameras, 2 digitals and 2 camcorders. I put my foot down and told her she could only take in one camera, but we'll see what happens. I refuse to lug a heavy camera bag all over the place.

I can't find the cord to recharge my digital, so I'll probably just use the 35mm this trip. Kind of bummed about that, but it has a better zoom.

I have only been twice and took both the digital and 35mm. I have a bad habit of doing that wherever I go. It can be a hassle. I just haven't been brave enough to leave the 35mm behind yet.

I am actually going to upgrade my digital camera, and the biggest factor in my choice is size. I have decided to go with the Pentax Optio s5i, it is small enough to fit inside an Altoids tin (which, after I line it with felt, will be my case).

We take a Nikon 35mm SLR and Nikon Digital. I would not have it any other way. I don't really care to have a camcorder however. I cannot scrapbook with a camcorder and truthfully, I don't know many people who would prefer to look at your video over your pictures....including me.

I snap the SLR 35mm and he snaps the digital. He is not quite the photographer I am, so it makes more sense for him to have the camera that will allow deleting photos. :teeth:

We normally bring the digital, 35mm and camcorder!! :rotfl: DH hates the digital and always says he never sees the pictures!! By the way he can't take pictures for his life. Last year we went on a cruise and he took the camera AND the comcorder and was recording pictuers of the handrails. Me and DD were like "wow what a nice handrail and the lifeboat is so cool really close up!!! Not another handrail!!" We think he got every rail on the ship!! :rotfl: :rotfl2: This trip we will bring the digital, DD's digital and maybe camcorder?!

DH and I started out w/ just a camera when we were dating. After our 1st trip together (on our way home) we bought a mini DV camcorder. It was the 1st yr they came out so it is small, but the ones now are still a tad smaller. We then carried both for a while. Then on our wedding /honyemoon at WDW we took one or the other or none. Well wouldn't you no it that was when I was picked for the Indian Jones show. No pictures nothing.

Well we continued on with this even though we had the previous experience. Well we went to AK and it was pooring down rain and was going to be all day. SO we brought ourselves and ponchos. Well wouldn't you no it but the lion decided to make a roaring apperance and nothing again. Although both of those experiences will never be forgoten. Oh well

THis time we'll have DS 15mths then and will once again be toting both around all of time I suspect. The only way around it is to get a new cam corder with a good digital pic built in. I don't see it happening though.

While I can't speak for past experience at Disney, (First trip comming up in August since we owned "the gear") I can speak for what we have done on other vacations.

The digital camera is a must have. That always goes. It is just so much easier to upload photos to share with family and friends in other parts of the country when we get home. Also for us "Photographically impaired" individuals the ability to shoot over many shots to get a few decent ones is a must have. One thing I did do is that when we got our newest digital camera I made sure it was one that I could get a reasonably compact case that could attach to my belt and hold extra batteries and memory. Its a great way to carry around the camera without having to carry it around. I also got one that can take over 500 shots on two sets of rechargable batteries.

As for the camcorder... that depends on the situation. It will come with us but may spend a good chuck of time in the room safe. Even with a small mini DV camcorder they still take up space and are a pain to haul around. Not so much the size but the thought of losing such an expensive item. Still I will bring it and take some video of the kids in each of the parks and at the hotel. We convert our tapes to the computer and edit them to DVD on a regular basis. Not so much to show people our trip videos but to go back and look at years from now. Having it on DVD makes it much easier. I am not going to try to video tape any of the nightime shows. Its not that much fun to do and it takes away from the enjoyment of the show. For us the video is more about the persons.

I brought a digital cam this year with extra memory cards 3(512K) but only had only had one battery. If you go the single route make sure you can either A. use AA or AAA batteries as a backup or B.bite the bullet and buy a second rechargeable battery. I missed some Wishes shots due to my battery running out while reviewing some movies. Movies suck battery juice so be advised.
Good luck

I have always brought digi camera, camcorder (the first trip it was a huge one- atleast huge compared to the standard size nowadays. LOL now I have a more updated much smaller one, DVD no less! LOL) and regular camera also.

I'll never take a regular camera again.. lost too many pictures because the film I bought at MK didn't work at all and I lost a lot of irreplacable pictures (like my daughter's FIRST haircut at MK... I'm still sad about that. Let's not talk about it. LOL).

I'll still take the digi camera and camcorder TO the resort... but I'm not sure I'll carry both around with us anymore. Previously we always had a stroller to help lug that stuff... and/or extra arms or back (for backpacks) with DH. But this trip is just me and the kids- and no stroller (unless we have to resort to renting one... we'll see. Youngest really shouldn't need one, she's the same age now as my middle child was our first trip and HE didn't need a stroller then!). So I am thinking I might not take the camcorder with us the entire time.

Like maybe on her birthday because we have character meals and family magic tour planned for that day. And maybe when we have plans to do see things... but everyday just going to the park to ride rides type stuff- I don't think I'll take it. I'm still considering it. I might just take everything I think we'll need and put it all in a locker. Less to carry around but it would BE THERE available if I wanted it- without the time consuming trip back to the resort to get it. Yanno? I'm definitely not carrying around a bunch of stuff all day every day. Nope... not gonna do it. And I know my kids... even if they said they wanted to take stuff and carry it- 5 minutes there they'd be saying they don't want to carry it anymore. LOL
