Am I crazy or should they completely redesign the menu for Tonys?? They should also hire all new chefs while they are at it...I think this restaurant is one of the worst ever. It's absolutely awful. I've eaten there like 3 times and all 3 times-ugh! :scared:

ARGH
We are going there before the Pirate and Princess party so we can be in the park early.....
I'm rethinking - everyone says it is awful!!

We've actually eaten there about three times and we've always had a good meal. I will say lunch is better than dinner. Seems to be less crowded, not as large of portions, etc. But the food has always been good and the service great. This is why I tell people if they want to try something, they need to do it rather than rely on what the Diser's say. I made the mistake of listening to a review and went to Boatwright's for dinner and hated it. Also, we hate Hollywood & Vine and won't step in the place and other people love it. And then you have this instance of someone not liking Tony's, but we enjoyed it. :)

We've eaten @Tony's 3xs (2002, twice in 2007...) we really enjoyed it the first two times...slightly disappointed the last time (December 2007) but still going back in September. DH and myself each order a house salad and share the spaghetti and meatball entree...DS (9yo) likes the fettuccine alfredo...and we loved watching Spectro Magic from the porch!:goodvibes

Tony's does have a faithful fan base of which I am not a member of. Tried it twice and it's basic blech-level food with tomato sauce.

We are trying this in July. I look at it this way every restaurant and Hotel on Disney property has gotten bad reviews just as every restaurant and hotel have gotten good reviews. I plan to give it a try see what we think for ourselves.

DH and I have eaten at Tony's a few times over the years and it has been awful each time. However, friends of ours love it and eat there every time they go to WDW. We actually ate there on our last trip because our friend loves it so much we figured we would try it again (it had been many years since the last attempt :upsidedow). We called her from the restaurant to tease her about our experience as it was less than stellar. :rolleyes1 As a PP said, there are good and bad reviews of every restaurant at WDW. I personally really dislike the food at Tony's and I will choose to eat elsewhere. You won't really know if you love it or hate it until you try it for yourself. :goodvibes

I haven't been back to Tony's since they stopped serving breakfast. It seems that it was all downhill for the restaurant after that . . .

We went there in Nov 07 before MVMCP.
I thought it was good....we all had good meals. I had a steak, It was better than I thought it would be.

We are trying Tony's in August. I have postponed it because it tends to get bad reviews but DD has a goal of eating at every restaurant at WDW so it was on her list of places to try. I figure that basic italian food can't be that bad anywhere.

I hate to say this, and this is my opinion. I've been coming to WDW for over 40 years now, and at one time the dining was part of the excitment for me and the family.

Well sadly, after reading the reports on the board, and after some personal experiences, I can't say that anymore. The menus are the same, there's nothing that really "hits us" anymore as outstanding. Maybe we still haven't been to those "exciting" restaurants. I don't know. Favorites are being removed from menus, I just don't get it.

I will however say that I ate dinner at Tony's for the first time last year on a solo trip in October, and it wasn't bad. I think what I really enjoyed was the view I got of the entrance to the MK and just "people watching". I was there for MNSSHP and I enjoyed seeing all the people in their costumes. The servers were exceptionally nice; almost as if they knew this was my first trip without the famly in tow.

So I don't know....the restaurants just don't seem to be like they use to be and I guess thats a sign of the times when you look at gas prices, food prices and all the other cut backs Disney is trying to do. Some blame it on the Dining Plan; I don't know; maybe.

But will this stop me from coming to my happy place; NEVER!!!!!!! :cool1:

We agree with the OP - we think Tony's is awful, maybe not all the time, but it was the last time we went there. We had eaten there once before and it was good enough - but not great. Our friends were meeting us for MNSSHP and wanted to eat somewhere they hadn't tried before. We chose Tonys because it was available and met their request. We were so embarassed. The food was just plan bad

We've enjoyed Tony's each time we've eaten there (3 x's).

Also, DH is a coffee drinker, big time. Tony's was one of the few places he's actually liked the coffee at WDW.

Very interesting points of view.......
I'll keep the ADR and see for myself ! It will be fun to people watch as the many priates and princesses come in thepirate: park!

Hmmm I certainly wouldn't describe it as awfulFar from it. We enjoyed the food, though it wasn't NEARLY as good as the italian restaurant in EPCOT. (I found it to be amazing.) Tony's was good though, I liked the spaghetti I got and the gelatto and the cheesecake we had for dessert. I think it's biggest perk is its location.

It rained while were were eating there, and we had no idea until after we left! The atmosphere inside was charming, I thought.

We've been to Tony's many, many times and have always had a great meal. In fact, we just made our reservations for our upcoming trip! :thumbsup2

I really don't understand how it gets so many bad reviews :confused3 .

I'm no gourmet but I am sorta not really impressed with ANY food at MK. I prefer to eat somewhere else. I think MK food is standard amusement park fare and prefer to go somewhere like Jiko or Kona or even 50's prime time.

I think the word "awful" gets thrown around pretty freely when it comes to restaurnts at Disney. I wouldn't regularly eat at Tony's if it was a restaurant near my house, but it's in a theme park and thus has to deal with food prep and crowding issues that no restaurant near your house has to deal with.

Now bland ... yes. IMO it's entirely fair to call Tony's bland.

I wouldn't say Tony's is awful, I just don't think it's memorable.

As for Italian cuisine, you can prepare the same at home with a jar of Prego sauce. Tony's seems more like a chain Italian restaurant than what was once considered a Disney signature dining experience.

The best meal Tony's ever had was their breakfast. I wish they would bring it back.

Since Lady & The Tramp is one of my favorite Dis movies we had to try Tony's. The atmosphere and service is great. The food is not. If you're expecting a great Italian meal you'll be disappointed. We have tried it a few times over the years just to see if there's been an improvement, the last time being lunch in April. The chicken ceasar was just ok - fresh lettuce but you could tell that the chicken was prepared in advance.
