pajammatam wants me to get on the scale again. I keep telling her NO cos I am absolutely TERRIFIED that all the right eating and exercising is doing me no good.
After 1st wk I was weighed I lost 3lbs, then scale showed 0 (nada), then it only showed 1 measley pound.
Since Im doing all this work I expect it to move and it is not. Im afraid I'll get discouraged if I dont see that scale move again so I avoid getting on it.

Is there anyone who doesnt weigh themselves? Even the fact that Im so close to that 5lb clippie doesnt get me on that scale!

(yes I am going this Mon for a physical so I know doc will be weighing me. I try not to pay attention cos their scales are always higher anyways)

The scale is moving real slow for me too!

All I can say is that we have formed a slow loser club here!

It does discourage me sometimes but I keep thinking of the prize at the end. I will be able to put my wedding ring on again.

Let's try to stay motivated and not be ruled by what the scale says. If we are feeling better about ourselves, let's just keep going!!

Good luck....

Lisa

You should weigh yourself before you get on the Dr. scale if you know their scale will be higher. It is discouraging when the scale doesn't move as quick as we want it but the real question is how are you feeling? Do you feel better eating right and excersising? Try not to go by what the number on the scale but more by how you feel. I had a 0 loss last week and I was discouraged BUT I realized my clothes were fitting and I was feeling better. You have been working hard. The reward is coming! Keep up the good work.

Lisa,
I totaly agree with you and keeping healthy for health's sake. I'm still not able to break that first 5 lb barrier! However, I do feel fantastic! I have noticed such a change in my attitude about food and I think it is finally getting through to the rest of my family. I have them eating sushi, tofu, fish of all kinds, sometimes they will even share a vegetarian day with me! DS actually ate mussels last night and loved them!
As far as that scale is concerned, I just smile when it goes up, and do a dance when it goes down. It has not gone up past my original WISH start weight for over 3 months, which for me, is a huge step in the right direction! I know I'm eating sensibly, and exercising, and taking my vitamines. I may never be my 26 YO self again, but I am the best me I can be!

Barb, when you step on that ship in November, you will be so incredibly happy, even if you weigh 800 lbs! You will feel like there is nobody there but you, (the wonderful staff and crew will see to that!), and you will feel so beautiful! Keep up the good work now, and when you return from your MAGICal vacation. Every day you're healthy, is one more day you've spent living a beautiful life.

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

Barb Sweetie,

I think alot of us sympathize with your fear of the scale. In my case, it's what let me gain as much as I did.

What everybody else said is absolutly true. The health benefits are far more important than that number on the scale. Try to think of it as just one piece of a complicated puzzle - the scale is not absolute truth - it is not the sum total of your success or failure (oh, and I'm preaching to me too!). It is just one of many facts. You're feeling better, You're getting stonger, You're looking good! That's what matters - the little numbers on the scale will come eventually if you stick with your plan.

Now, about that nassssty scale, how often do you think you should weigh? Not everybody does it every week. I weigh daily cause it's part of my motivation to keep going, but I think that would completely discourage you! Most people do it weekly. There are a few that weigh every other week or once a month! If you are committed to sticking with the program, maybe you should choose one of those, especially since your plan is more healthy eating - you won't see as quick a loss. That's ok, you will see it!

Oh, and that mean DR's scale - sorry, but his is correct! They get them callibrated on a regular basis. When you weigh in, take a deep breath and then ask the nurse if you've lost since last time, and how much. You don't have to look at his numbers if you don't want to, just find out how much!

You're doing good!

Stick with it!

Karyn

Thanks everyone

I last got weighed in at the doctors about 5wks ago. I may not look at the actual numbers but I know I will be interested to see if he shows a loss or not.

The number on the scale is not what you are working toward, Barb. You are working toward a healthy heart, unless things have changed since you joined us here on WISH.

I weigh myself once a week. Until today I have not seen a loss in pounds since 5/11. I did, however, lose inches during that time.

Try not to obsess about your weight, I know you think that number is very important, but to be truthful your size is more important than your weight, and your lipids are more important than either your size or your weight.

Stop weighing yourself and start measuring yourself. Perhaps that will help your fear.

Barbara if you really dont want to get on my scale then please dont. But on the other hand you have been walking between 25-30 miles a week and you have to understand that you are losing inches and turning your fat into muscle so the scale might not move......measure yourself too and that will prove that inches are more important than pounds.....I have found that to be true as my clothes are fitting much better than 2 months ago (except the bras, i wish they would've stayed the same size :( ) but anyways think about it and like Kathy says its the healthy heart you were striving for.

Everyone is different as far as how fast they loose weight.

Make sure you are eating enough. Sometimes you can gain, or not loose much if you aren't eating enough. Your metabolism will actual stop if it thinks you are starving it.

I too weigh each day, several times. It is my motivator. Some people shouldn't. I agree that its not the weekly or daily numbers that matter, its the healthier lifestyle you are learning.

Melanie

I haven't lost anything in weeks, but my goal is not to gain anything either, and I haven't.
Do what you feel comfortable with, if you don't want to go on the scale , then don't , but continue to eat healthy.
