When I was younger I suffered with terrible Migraines, but thankfully they almost disapeared as I got older, however in the last month or so I have had about 3-4 dreadful ones!. This afternoon whist driving home from taking mum out, it started , blinding zig zagging lights in one eye follwed by the most dreadful feeling of sickness and a pounding headache.

I have been in bed all afternoon and only felt well enough now to get up, although the elastic band feeling around my head is still there.

Any ideas what causes them or cures apart from Paracetomol?

 a friend of mine siffers from them , very unpleasent ! hope you feel better soon x x

My mum used to suffer from migraines quite a lot but they are rare now her GP has given her medication. When she does get them she finds the sticky ice strips that you put on your forehead to be very useful. She swears by the Migraine Ice versions but they seem to have stopped selling them.

Hope you feel better soon:hug:

So sorry to hear that, Sue. I used to suffer with them quite badly but found that completely giving up caffeine (coffee, tea, Coke) really helped as well as cutting down on dairy. I still get them (one every 6 months or so) but I can manage them so much better - a couple of painkillers (I've found Tylenol the best), a brief lie-down with a very cold flannel over my eyes and they're usually gone within the hour. Plus I rarely get that horrible overwhelming nausea anymore... I hope you find some relief...

I always found the meds from the Dr made me feel horribly nauseated so gave up with that...

I get the ones where you cannot see properly for about 20 minutes and always feels really scarey, then get a headache. I find that bright sunshine does not help and have also noticed if I bend down suddenly can bring an attack on.

sorry to hear you are suffering

 Sorry to hear that you're suffering Sue. I hope you're feeling better soon

I wish I had some advice for you. My friend suffers really badly with them and they can keep her off her feet for several days, though she has a lot of sinus problems

Sue, I similarly used to suffer from migranes in my younger days.
If I stayed away from chocolate and coffee that seemed to help. Thankfully I can stick with the coffee now :goodvibes

Could you be stressed or tired through work ?

Thanks guys for your replys and advice.

I still dont feel 100% but it is getting better. Im not really sure what is triggering them, however I have been more stressed than normal this past few months with work, my dad being ill, (he goes in to have his operation this coming Thurday) and now my mum is not too well, so I suppose it could be to do with that. Ive also had a really bad week this week with my Vicki as her partner broke up with her and she has been devastated about it, so thats been a worry as well.

I had only had a breakfast bar this morning, so there was no coffee or chocolate eaten so I dont think its that. Red wine used to bring them on occasionally, so I gave that up (much to my dismay;) ) and only drink Rose wine now, but hey I still drink, so not all bad:rotfl2:

Just hoping I dont get another one for a while:)

 sounds like the stress is the main culprit ! take care of yourself and give Vick a hug as well x x x

Sorry to hear you are so stressed - that may be the culprit :confused3

Hope things get better soon

Sorry to hear you'v been poorly Sue. I occasionaly get them, tend to always be around my left eye and i normally end up being sick.

Hi Sue
I hope that you are feeling better today - I suffer with migraines a lot and lately I have found that using a For Head stick has worked a treat, it's a natural remedy (although I still take all my pills too ;) ) Another great rememdy are the sticky ice pack thingys - but as others have said they aren't always available so I make a pack out of lots of crushed ice in a sandwich bag wrapped in a tea towel- absolute bliss!

I tried giving up chocolate and cheese - but I didn't last very long with that! :rotfl:

Hope your feeling better.

I used to get them for no reason, now they come once a month! I find a hot shower helps, with lots of really hot water on my head. But that's probably a personal thing as my friend says it makes hers worse.

I bought some stuff in the US that really helps well, I think you can get in in the UK: Excedrin. I also found Migraleave to help well.
They recommend if you take medication, take it at the first sign, as then the symptoms that make it so bad will have less of a chance to develop. I used to wait till it gets really bad before taking any meds but then they usually hung around for ages, now at first sign I take 2 excedrin and usually it doesn't even develop.

Stress can definitely be a factor.

Syndol works for me - it doesn't work on a "normal" headache but for a migraine it just knocks me out and I sleep for a few hours then it's gone.
I can still "feel" where the pain was but it doesn't hurt - cold packs make me much worse but I find a heat pack on my cheekbone helps .
Does anyone else get the "creeping flesh" sensation on the top of their head?
My hands can go completely numb too, plus tunnel vision - it really is horrible.
