I have started stocking up on things that are on sale at our grocery store for Winter, I no longer work anymore due to health problems, but did for years in the construction industry. I would get laid off every winter and well money was tight, I did get full unemployment, but nowhere what I made when working. so I learned to stock up on items for the winter.

This has stayed with me, I start now and continue to stock up through the Fall, then when it is real bad out, I only have to pick up a few items.

I have a small little grocery store down in my basement, a nice size freezer. Due to the high price of meat and dairy product's, I purchase things on Sale and do a great job of freezing these items.

Oh no, you are making me feel bad. I am almost done my christmas shopping, but I need to stock up on things for the winter.

I guess if nothing else, you got me thinking about everything I need.

I have not done any Christmas shopping at all. We have cut way back in that area! My dh and I exchange small gift's, we have only one DD almost 20, and basically that is it, and then his Mother.

Christmas shopping done??!! WHo are you people!!!;)

Stocking up on food? Would love too, but can only afford so much each week for budget.

Geez..I need to get my act together and get on this stocking ahead stuff...maybe a little at a time.

I have a 14 year old boy. I'm happy when I can get enough food in the house to last 3 or 4 days --- months would be unthinkable.

Ditto to what Toby's Friend just posted. I have a 13 and 14 year old boys! They're eating us out of house and home! I wish I could eat that much and stay so thin!

We haven't taken our "big" summer vacation yet, I don't even want to think about stocking up for winter, let alone Christmas!

My dad was self employed in the a/c business. Can you say "ZERO" income during the winter months? You don't get unemployment when you are self employed.

My parents never bought cars or anything else on credit. If they didn't have the money to pay for something in the fall they sure weren't going to later. I guess farmers would be the same.

I didn't have a car payment until I was almost 40 - when cars finally got so expensive I couldn't save up for one.

Stock up? For WINTER? No! I have canned foods in stock at all times. I thought most people did.

I don't consider Christmas shopping stocking up, but I've got most of that DONE. In fact, I do it right after Christmas for most of the adults I purchase for.

We always keep a good supply of canned goods, dry goods like pasta and such, drink mixes etc. We are behind on this years' firewood supply, however. As for Christmas, I do most of that about 3 weeks before hand as DH and I have few people to shop for, and don't buy much, if anything, for each other.

No, but I bought a new swim suit today! :teeth:

We still have lots of summer left here!!! Plus I needed one for Disney in a couple of months!

falls out......no seriously .......if we didnt have multiples on canned goods and frozen stuff and dry foods.......we would of not made it thru the ICE STORM OF 98.........we cooked and ate what we had......AND fed 15 others from the neighborhood.........what a great attitude from all the Mainers and out of staters that helped us.....

No, I shop week to week. I don't like to freeze, I like to buy fresh. The supermarket/farmers market is about a mile up the road and we have 4 wheel drive, so we are never stuck without food.
I Christmas shop in Oct.,Nov., Dec.

I am stocking up ... on my hips. AARGH! I need to start execising.

I keep shelves and shelves of canned goods in the basement. Anytime something goes on sale, I buy it in bulk. We also buy alot of stuff at Sam's Club. I also keep frozen bread loaves (the kind you bake yourself) and dried milk. I've been snowed in before and I've been poor before and no one at my house is gonna starve! Now that I have more space since we moved, we're going to get a freezer so I can stock up on that stuff as well.

DH is even worse than I am. He used to live pretty far out in the country all by himself--when we moved to Michigan, he had 2 twenty pound bags of rice that we gave away--not to mention a mud room full of canned goods. Why in the world would 1 person need that much rice?

Stock up for the winter? What is that? :earseek: Is it like when I stocked up for a hurricane living in FL 15 years? I grew up in NJ. My parents always seemed to have lots of canned things around ALL the time, but I don't remember any stocking up for winter. :scratchin Is this something I should be doing now that I'm in a colder state? :earseek:
