Anyone else notice this about AKL???

We love the AKL and the wonderful scent!!! It is not from the fireplace inside or the fire pit outside though because they are both gas, not wood burning. We would miss the scent if it was not there. DD has asthma and the scent has never bothered her at all. She did have a lot of problems with the musty/mold smell at Poly though.

That smell is one of things that prompted us to stay at AKL. After a wonderful evening at Boma, DS & I wandered around the lobby at AKL & fell in love with the atmosphere. The aroma of woodfire & spices were a big part of the atmosphere for us.

I heard that they had to discontinue the woodfire smell at WL due to guest complaints. I hope AKL does not follow suit. But WL used to smell Heavenly in the evening!

WE loved that smell, It just contributed to the spectacular themeing that AKL provides. I never did think about the asthsma or allergy sufferers until now!

I think the WL used to have the same type of smell in the lobby as well. Does anyone remember that? I know the WL has a fire place, but the last time we went, I didn't smell the smokey campfire-ish smell.

Aaahhhh...the 'AKL smell.' My DH wanted me to call Disney and ask exactly what that smell consists of and if they sell it in candle form. He was serious. We just stayed at POR last month and he kept saying he missed 'the smell.'

I love the smell at AKL, and I also love the smell at GF. I wish I knew what they used, because, I sure would like my house to smell like that (GF, not AKL).

Not going to happen...I think anyone walks up and "complains", although I guarentee, in person, it never happens, the guest is slapped down and sent to the Motel 6 on I-Drive!!
Yeah, yeah, you think AKL stinks...move on and let the rest of us enjoy!!

Disney does use scent theming. Have you ever been to the Boardwalk Inn? On the Suites side, down near the quiet pool? It smells like roasting hotdogs. Mmmm coney Island comes to mind. Yes, they're enhanced to be part of the show,to envelope all of your senses.

On our recent trip, we went to AKL for dinner at Boma (that's another story!). We wandered the resort a bit since we had never been there before. It is beautiful , but I noticed the lobby had (to me) a strong "wood burning" odor that I found annoying. DH said he didn't really notice it. Was it just me or has anyone else noticed the same thing?

I love that smell. You get that scent at the Wilderness Lodge, as well.
To us, it really transports you into the theming of the resort.

1. Would you say the scent is the same at both lodges or does AKL's seem a bit "spicier" or different?

2. Do the rooms smell this way also? Or does it just depend on how close you are to the lobby?

The scent is just in the lobby area. The rooms we have stayed in have never had the scent, but we have never been close to the lobby. I don't really notice it in the hallways though.

I didn't notice a scent in the rooms. I guess you'd be able to smell it in the hallways depending on where your room is -- the closer to the lobby the more smell it would have.

We could smell it outside our room at AKL, but we were fairly near the lobby. We couldn't smell it inside the room.

At WL it was only the lobby.

I thought WL's was very faint, woodsy, outdoorsy...AKL's was much stronger, spicer, yummy.

I haven't even noticed the scent that much in the lobby of WL lately. The first few years it was open, it was enveloping. We didn't have it in our room when we stayed there. Likewise with AKL - in the lobby only. No scent in the rooms. AKL has this glorious spice aroma mixed in with the woodfire. I wish they made a candle of it. I tried to recreate it with some Yankee Tarts - Half a Fireside & Half a Pumpkin Pie was pretty close. Too bad they discontinued Fireside

We love that smell too! My dream is to someday spend a couple nights at AKL. I felt such a connection to that resort.

I love that smell too! I always take a big whiff of it after I get off the bus as I'm walking towards the Zawadi Marketplace

I love the smell at AKL & WL. I notoced the one at WL smells a bit like cedar.
