Anyone else notice the price increase at the grocery store

OMG, it is terrible here in S.Jersey. Things keep going up and up. Yesterday I went to Shop-Rite, spent almost $100.00 and hardly brought home anything! Now I am a good shopper and not an overspender.

So today I went back and stocked up on laundry detergent. It was on sale for $1.99 per gallon. Brand Name. Long and hehold when I went to just stock up on the sale items, I found alot of other's doing the same thing. So here I come out of the store with my limit of 20 bottles of laundry detergent. Poor DH put them away in the basement, however I feel that I did save here. So it was worth the time to go today. Our gas price's are going up, milk, meat is out of this world, even hamburger is very high, egg's, bread, seems like everything went up over night.

I haven't really noticed prices down here going up to much. But, we are never lucky enough to see brand name laundry detergent for $1.99. There is one store here that will double coupons up to .99 cents. I will usually go there when I have a stash of coupons to use.

I"m in S. Jersey as well, and I have noticed price increases.

What store had the $1.99 detergent? I got three today with B1 Get 2 freee. It was $5.99 for one, the other two were free. (So basically the same price)

20 bottles.. I did have a stockpile, but now I have four bottles of detergent here.

I have noticed that BJ's is getting more competitive price wise. I'm lately buying more from BJ"s than from the usual stores.

The price of meat is getting high due to supply and demand. There are many Atkins dieters, in which the primary ingredient is MEAT.

I can't tell you the last time I used red meat. I have been using turkey, chicken or even going meatless altogether.

Yes. It's called inflation. I've seen sodas come in 20-packs. 5lb. bags of sugar seem to be a thing of the past. The price is the same, but you only get 4lbs. I hate inflation....:(

I'm still burnt up since the changed to 6 oz yogurt down from 8 oz but same price

Our groceries have gone up because we are eating healthier no junk - low carb. I really use coupons a lot.

but right now low carb stuff is awfuol expensive because there is not enough competition yet

You have to be really careful reading labels - it's a trend that began a while ago to quietly "downsize" products. Here's an excerpt regarding Dreyer's & Schwan's quiet downsizing:

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -The half-gallon ice cream container - the sweet standard of grocery store freezers for decades - is quietly starting to shrink.

While manufacturers over the years reduced the package size of everything from candy bars to dish detergent, the traditional ice cream "brick'' remained what it was - the half-gallon.

Now, pinched by rising costs of ingredients and afraid to raise prices already above $5, at least two ice cream makers are silently phasing out the half-gallon and replacing it with a 1.75-quart carton, a half-pint smaller. Others are considering doing the same...

........................................................

I try to stay away from the 'downsizers' - even if their product is on 'special', because if they are successful, others like Breyer's will follow.

Dear Cindy, It was Shop-Rite, think they are sale until Sat. The sale just started this morning. People where stocking up. It was Purex Brand, 6 different scents to choose from.

I noticed lately soda has been rediculous. (I drink a lot of soda rather than drinking coffee). Before November I bought a ton of 12 packs @ 5 for 10 dollars and I had a bit of a stockpile. Once that was gone I went trying to find sale prices for soda everywhere, and it was like $4 or more for a 12pack of soda!!! (I always drink diet coke.) We're pretty close to jersey, so I'd suggest if you have a redners warehouse market by you check that out, they usually have really decent prices (But they don't have a shoppers card :( )

tricia.

I use Purex and love it and especially their liquid fabric softener too.

Our grocery store just had the big ones of Purex BOGO free, so i bought 2.

Also, they had BOGO free for a roasting chicken, I bought 2 and froze 3 and we're having one for dinner tonight.

I think prices of almost everything is thru the roof these days :(

This I have noticed, too. We always bought my dt. Coke when on sale for $2 or $2.50, and the regular price would be something around $3.69. Well, lately the regular price is $4.29 and the sale price is $3.79!! Pepsi was still at the lower prices so for the first time EVER, I bought Pepsi. Don't like it near as much, but I hate coffee and need some caffeine in the morning. Pepsi raised their prices the following month. Best sale since then has been 3/$10 for both brands.

I made a point to tell the Coke and Pepsi guys there stocking I wouldn't buy at those prices, and told the store manager as well. Hoping that when he knows people are paying attention that we won't keep buying it just because we always have....

Now any time anyone has it on special for under $3 we go and buy the limit. Nothing else to do until the prices come back down...Oh well, water's healthier for me anyway....but it's not caffeinated!!

The last "half gallon" I bought of Breyer's was 1.75 quarts........:(

Grocery prices go up when the cost of gas goes up, well they have to get to the store somehow.

SHOP-RITE!!!!!! Oh, how I miss Shop-Rite!!!!! They have EVERYTHING! Florida grocery stores stink in comparison. They have NOTHING!

No, I haven't noticed a price increase here either. And I hate the fact that in my area, NO ONE doubles coupons. Thank goodness I'm moving to another state in a very short time. :teeth: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I found out about Purex when I was on vacation in Virginia at Christmas. I refused to pay $1 for a tiny box of soap in the hotel's laundry room. Got a huge bottle of Purex at K-Mart for $2. :teeth: When I got back home, I started buying it here. It smells GREAT and makes my jeans especially sooooooooooooo soft! :Pinkbounc Bye, bye Cheer...my old favorite.

This one really burned me up also. Ice cream packages shrinking? That won't bother me in the least. I have an unopened half-gallon in the fridge about 10 months now. Guess I didn't really want it.

Oh! What else that bugs me about the change in yogurt container size is that on our diabetic diets, 8 ozs. is one serving. Now they're messing that up! Guess we'll have to give up yogurt...their loss...and drink milk!
