Hello All!

Ok, I want to know if we're the only ones not wearing sunscreen at Disney??

I admit, I HATE, I mean really hate sunscreen…

Last trip in August, I carried a small trial size sunscreen tube in my purse and we never used it!

No, we did not get burned, not at all and we are fairly white, being from Canada! We did get a little suntanned (I think at AK), but I found that we were always in the shade (line-ups and shows).

Anyone else??

My family very rarely wears it to the parks..I do like to sometimes out some on my nose and cheeks lightly because I hate my face getting pink..Now when we go to the beach or pool I have to really load DS up or he just burns..

Hi,

With all do respect, I would suggest that everyone wear sunscreen if they do not want to risk sun cancer.

welllll....just so ya know, the current wisdom is that if you get tan, that's still damage to your skin....

I hasouldn't talk tho- I fake n bake pretty often (go to a tanning bed). I do only do the ones that block 99% of the bad rays, but I"m sure it's still not healthy.

Anyway, this tan generally keeps me from burning, but...........

Now, I hate the greasy feel of tanning lotion on my hands, so I usually get a spray on.

Totally agree - I wear Factor 35 over here in England, it's 45+ for me in Florida.

I definitely wear sunscreen and I've very olive skinned. I can thank my Black Irish origin. I don't burn easily at all. BUT...Not wearing sunscreen, no matter what shade you are, is a big mistake. Think skin cancer and think premature aging. In Florida, that sun is relentless.

Here's an idea. For your face, many of the better mositurizers have sunscreen. So just wear that. On your body, find something that doesn't stink as I know some of them do. You'll just have to try different ones untill you find one you like. I like Banana Boat SPF 15.

We never use chemical sunscreens; there's some evidence coming out now that the energy from the sun is absorbed into your skin, interacts with the benzene based chemicals in sunscreen, and causes dna damage.

We use blue lizard from australia, it's a physical only barrier with zinc and titanium. Sun is not absorbed INTO the skin, it's reflected OFF it.

We wear hats at disney (usually straw cowboy hats so we're cool and cool), and some blue lizard sunscreen on the tops of our shoulders and our faces.

Despite the vastly increased use of sunscreens )chemical), skin cancer is increasing at 3% a year for the past 20 years. That's too fast a rise to blame on the hole in the ozone

That says to me that chemical sunscreens ain't workin'.

Regarding the above, I found this article, which makes sense, basically recommending that people continue wearing sunscreen but covering up and staying out fo the sun where possible.

"Although the sunscreens tested offered little protection against UVA, experts aren't advocating giving up on sunscreen altogether, as it does protect against UVB. Instead, the consensus is that sunscreen should still be used to complement other sun safety measures."

And

"Although benefits of UVA protection may seem limited in current sunscreens, the lotions are still useful for protecting against UVB rays and should continue to be used. The power of the sun can seem hard to avoid in the heat of the summer, but by following safe sun practices and taking care to protect vulnerable skin, the risk of developing skin cancer can be minimised."

I do not happen to use sunblock either....I never burn...and do (yes, I admit it) like to get tan. But for my kids on the other hand, I will not take any chances...they will be wearing 50+ block on the upcoming trip!! ;)

Sunscreens are improving all the time, too. I was reading an article recently about the new ingredient, Helioplex, in the Neutrogena 55 Dry Touch. It's supposed to be the best ingredient currently on the U.S. market for protecting against UVA, though something similar has been sold in Europe for years.

i definetly put something on my face at least.don't want wrinkled leathery skin years from now if i can help it! :rotfl2:

We dont use it. We generally will apply it while at a water-park, but thats about it.

I kinda think this sun-screen mindset has everyone loading up on it, and that *ONE* time you forget, is worse then being exposed to miniscule amounts your whole life. One bad burn is seriously worse for your skin then building up your melanin and getting used to it.

JMHO, of course.

In May I did, and NEVER got burned. I used 30 SPF, and it worked. I used it on my shoulders and chest area, as I was wearing a Cami top, and was just as white as I was when I left. :confused3 However, about 2 weeks ago, I went to a Pool Party, did not use ANY sun tan stuff, and got BURNT! :sad2: I swear I think the Chlorine in the pool made me sensitive to the sun. :guilty:

I think that when you know someone with skin cancer it makes you think differently.

Seeing what a guy at work has gone/is still going through makes me even more willing to wear the sunscreen and cover up - it might be a little more uncomfortable/inconvenient but I don't want to take the risk :)

I never wear it, but my kids get loaded up with it. I hate putting on sunscreen. I hate putting on lotion of any kind. I just can't stand the feeling of it. Now, this Neutrogena dry touch is interesting. Does it go on dry feeling. If so then I might try it. I wish they had a sunscreen that went on like talcum powder.

We always wear sunscreen when going outside for a long period of time. And my 18 month old wears it anytime we go out side for longer than 15 minutes...he is a burner. Anyway, I like to get tan myself and I do, even with the sunscreen, so thats not an excuse for me. My stepdad has skin cancer and it is very scary to see.

I always wear it even though I don't burn easily. I just found a great one, too, at drugstore.com, it's Panama Jack 75 spf. It's great because it doesn't smell like sunscreen and it's really think so it's not greasy on your skin. I love it! :thumbsup2

Sunscreen isnt fun but I always use it. I live in FL and know too many people with sun cancer!

I admit, I HATE, I mean really hate sunscreen…

And I really hate the quarter-sized white spot on my forehead where I had to have a basal cell carcinoma removed. My sunscreen-free childhood in Florida probably had something to do with that. :cool1:

My father just passed away this past Memorial Day from skin cancer. He was 56.He was first diagnosed with it when he was 50. We are from NJ so we only have strong sun for 2-3 months out of the year and he never had a bad sunburn. I always wear sunscreen when I am out in the sun. :sunny:
