Anyone else not into the dinner shows on new ships?

You dont want to be entertained when you are literally paying lots money to be entertained by a musical entertainment company? Its like going to WDW and complaining about there being rides. Stay at home then and save the money.
No. I don’t need “entertainment” to enjoy a meal with my loved ones. I don’t need some canned loudspeaker yelling at me while trying to convey the choices I’ve made from the same menu DCL has had for a decade and a half at the top of my lungs while trying to be heard. I’m from a generation that didn’t require screens to socialize.

If I go to Disney World I can choose to ride rides or not ride rides. It doesn’t affect the experience ultimately because I have **choices.** You’re comparing apples to bars of soap. They aren’t even remotely the same thing. But I am **forced** to go to the MDRs because Disney has no other options for specialty dining other than your one Palo and one Enchante/Remy dining night, at an extra cost, that you are allocated, and that’s if the name-on-a-stick and paid-too-much-for-a-room-so-that-they-can-be-entered-into-the-cabana-lottery people haven’t swallowed all of those reservations up before Platinum booking time starts. No dinner buffet or even sit down meal with green servers like they used to do in Cabanas, but you can sure get children’s menu chicken fingers and pizza on the pool deck or from room service.

I cruise because I like to cruise, and when I choose to cruise Disney it’s because they, at least in the past, are reliable when it comes to service, though that has palpably changed as they expand the fleet at a rate that sees them filling positions without stressing the service aspect and without adequate training. I don’t cruise Disney because I want dinner theatre.

I like the dinner shows in Arrendelle/Cocoa restaurants but I hate the Marvel ones. I find them pretty easy to tune out though once our meal comes and we are just focused on eating and our conversation. You could ask to be seated away from the stage and screens in all of the restaurants - that would probably cut down on the noise/distraction factor a lot. I am guessing most want to sit near the entertainment so it should be easy to grant that request.

:rotfl2:love that description...though you forgot to add "mainly so they can brag about it on social media"

i think this is increasingly going to be a problem for DCL as all these new ships come online, specifically for the older ships as the top performing CMs on those ships get selected to go to the new ships.

You get people who like dinner shows are captive to the non dinner shows on each disney cruise too? Not every rotation restaurant has a dinner show. I wish they did. But im forced to have a bland meal with a mess hall vibe if i choose to do all rotation restaurants every disney cruise. I didnt choose this.
Sorry but I'm just not following you. It's not like the dinner show MDR avoids a bland meal. First COCO show menu is awful and it is very much a mess hall vibe. When I can reach over to the table next to me and sample their appetizer because of proximity, it doesn't get more mess hall cafeteria than that! Yep, glad we all have options on DCL ships. I relish the quiet time in 1923 whenever I'm on this class of ship. Also looking forward to being back on the Dream and will probably book Palo or Remy for Animators Palate night since I've experience the Crush show several times now. Enjoy however you choose to cruise!

I've always had the best service on the Magic and Wonder and worst on the Dream. I'm not sure why that is, but it's been pretty consistent. I've been on the Wish twice. Service was just okay. The servers seemed stressed out, maybe all the noise makes it more stressful. The servers commented that 1923 was the best restaurant.

Our last several cruises, (which have been on the Magic & Dream) both our MDR servers and Palo servers talked about transferring to one of the new ships. Our Palo server on our last couple of cruises on the Dream (Victor from DR - possibly the best Palo server ever) said he regretted not accepting the chance to be on the Treasure's opening team but won't turn down going to the Destiny, if asked. Our MDR server on the Magic a few weeks ago, same thing. Was about to finish his current contract soon and then after his vacation, he was going to Amsterdam to be part of the Desitny's opening team. I wouldn't want to be a MDR server on the new ships. They are so cramped. DCL made it incredibly difficult for them.

The living accommodations are better on new ships.
