I have a 6 year old and we are not caught up in the HM craze.

DD does not like HM, but the girls in her class are big into the craze. They are not very nice to my DD because she does not like HM.

I am proud of her for liking what SHE likes, but I feel bad for her as these girls are relentless.

Anyone else have a DD that doesn't "follow the crowd"? :confused3

Your DD sounds like mine. She's way more into animals, playing outside, etc, and hasn't shown any interest in Hannah Montana or High School Musical yet. I keep thinking she'll give in to peer pressure at some point and ask to watch them, but it hasn't happened yet. We were at the parks last week and had the opportunity for a great seat to watch the High School Musical show but she was more interested in meeting characters and riding rides.

I do sometimes feel bad for her that she doesn't have the same interests as the other girls in her class. So far, though, it doesn't seem to bother her, and I'm glad she has the confidence to march to the beat of a different drummer. Plus, though I know those two shows are cute and harmless, I do think the intended audience is probably a little older than 6. I'm glad she's more interested in cartoon characters than boy/girl relationships at this age. There's plenty of time for that later.

That is awful about how those girls are treating your DD.

I have a roomful of 1st grade girls, :teacher: , & have yet, to hear any of them even mention Hannah Montana. Thank goodness!

I'm glad my DD13 missed the HM craze. When she was young, she was totally into Lizzie McGuire.

DD7 (she's almost 8) isn't into HM. She likes the songs well enough when they are played on Radio Disney, but she hasn't asked about buying a CD or anything. I don't really like the show, so I don't let her watch. I'm glad, too, that she's skipping the craze. She does love HSM, though!

DD7 doesn't seem to be much into celebrities/actors/actresses. She seems more into the songs or the stories and the characters of the stories.

That's too bad that your DD is being teased, esp. at that age! Maybe she can find something else that her and the other girls have in common to divert the attention.

It's not just six-year-olds. Apparently Hannah is HUGE in my DD13's class, she used to not mind it, but now she can't stand it.

it was the same for my dd (who is 10 now) when she was about 8, she was not into High School Musical (still doesnt like it) and ALL the other girls were.

My DD7 absolutely loathes Hannah Montana! :rotfl: But all the girls at her school are into HM. Luckily, they've found common ground with the love of princesses and horses.

My DD (who is 6, 1st grade she will be 7 soon) isn't really into HM or HSM. Her friends are though. If it wasn't for them she wouldn't care about it at all. She is familiar with it, and I rented HSM from netflix and let her watch it a few times and sent it back. I figure it isn't bad enough to ban, but just not something I want her getting into right now. (No Bratz in the house, but she doesn't like them.) If she was older I wouldn't' mind HM and HSM so much. After all oder kids need stuff for them that is still appropriate. It just seems like when ever they come out with pre-teen early teen stuff it leaks into early E school and even before. I hate that! Why do kids have to grow up so darn fast? :confused3

My DD perfers the music in the new Holly Hobbie DVD's. It really is good music, check them out if you have young girls. :thumbsup2

In fact the other day she turned on the T.V. and it was on the Disney channel was on, it was Hannah Montana. She took the remote and turned it to PBS Sprout! I love that about her!

Of course as I type this I have to take breaks to help her change her American girl doll's clothes. Why? Because I like AG. I like what it stands for and the role models it sets for girls (letting them stay girls too!)

Sorry to hear people teasing your DD, that is just wrong.

We could SO be friends! LOL
My DD got the AG Twins for Christmas and plays with them everyday! I still have MY AG dolls. I agree with little girls not growing up to fast. Must be a MICHIGAN thing LOL (Saw that you live in MI). I was born in Oakland county Mi and most of my family still lives there.

Very cool, (actually downright cold today in MI!) YIKES! I was born and raised in south east MI, but days like today I wish I lived some place warmer.

My girls have the bitty twins, and DH got a few AG dolls this past year, but she really is at the young end for them. I just love the quality of them.

Yup, my 6 year old dd (1st grade) is not yet into any of the Hannah Montana or HSM stuff. I do have 2 HSM songs on my iPod because they remind me of our Disney cruise (they were played by the Mickey pool every day). I agree about letting our girls stay little as long as possible. If at age 6 they get interested in something that is more appropriate for a 9 or 10 year old then what happens when they are 9 or10? It becomes a vicious cycle that I don't choose to have my daughter on. She still watches Noggin and such with her little brother.

She also just got her first AG doll this Christmas (Julie). She loves her and I too agree with their philosophy of letting little girls stay little girls.

I couldn't' agree more.

Noggin is very popular around here. Whats not to like???? Of course DD isn't so thrilled with the "it's like preschool on T.V. part." Like when you are done with preschool it is time to move on. Now that it is 24 hours the girls love it because something is one in the evening. :cool1:

My DD likes Jo Jo's Circus (Just made her a Jo Jo Outfit) and Little Einsteins. She LOVES her AG Twins and keeps me busy sewing clothes for them.:upsidedow She watches Disney movies Cars, and princess movies. She has just started liking animals. She is very proud of being able to feed the Zebu at the zoo.:goodvibes.

I want her to be a 6 year old and not worry about makeup, hair and clothes :confused3 just yet. I will not allow "Bratz" in the house. I want her to grow up a little more "conservative".

My DD 6 does not watch Hanna Montana either!! I know a lot of her friends love it, and one mom acted like I was crazy when I said we didn't watch it. I am so proud of her that she hasn't asked to watch it. I think she probably would if I let her, but we only watch an hour of t.v. before school, and she seems perfectly fine with that. She would much rather be playing dolls (A.G. or Barbie) or doing crafts.

My DS 8 has also never asked to see it. He did say some people in his class went to the concert. T.V. doesn't really interest him unless it is sports!

i have twins, and they are hm FANATICS. oh wow, it does get the tiniest bit nerve wracking when everytime you say oops, they look at eachother with those big eyes and sing "its okay, everyone has those days! NOBODYS PERFECT! I GOTTA WORK IT! AGAIN AND AGAIN TIL I GET IT RIGHTTTTT!" but i do know a girl in their class who doesnt like hm and my dd6's still LOVE her. they go "its ok, we dont have to watch hannah while your here, what do you want to do?"
sweet childhood kindness, wow i dream they never grow up to middle school and stay 1st graders forever!
but the teasing you talked about, wow that kills me! you should talk to a teacher if its really affecting confidence and making her sad then maybe you should talk to a teacher about the situation.

Hi Cindee,
Ireland and Alexis aren't into the HM craze either. Just today, they saw a shirt with her on it and I pointed it out, and neither one could tell me who it was. :lmao: They both love Sprout, and I think the only Non-Sprout show they watch is Spongebob, and that just started recently. They like funny home videos...:rotfl: and are into playing "doll house". They also like reading Junie B. Jones books. Ireland reads to Lexie, which is what they're doing right now.

My daughter is completely uninterested in Hannah Montana, and we've never watched the show. I'm really glad she's not into it, because Billy Ray Cyrus has made my skin crawl since "Achey Breaky Heart" - yuck! That song was played constantly when it came out, and boy, did I hate it.

I am kind of the oppiste... I am a 12 year old girl in 7th grade. I am a crazy hannah montana fan but no one else at my school really likes her too much. They are all into Chris Brown and stuff which i dont caare about. I dont follow the crowd at all

I don't know who Chris Brown is, I guess I should be happy about it.

If my DD was 12 I don't think I would mind her being into HM, I think it really the age group it should be directed too. What I don't like is how my DD's 1st grade class is obsessed with it. Save it until the show is about the life you are living, it isn't about 1st grade!

Of course it could be worse, I remember when I taught preschool and little girls were into spice girls! :headache:

See, I completely agree w/this. I think it's the age thing that is getting me. There are several girls at the pre-school that my dd goes to that are so into HM. They're only 4! DD (who will be 5 in April) has never heard of her, by my choice. LOL I wouldn't have a problem if my pre-teen/teen were into her, but I want my dd to be a little girl & not grow up faster than she should ;)
