Anyone else have/read these as a kid? (or other nostalgic stuff)

The Bookshelf for Boys and Girls. We had the set pictured - the blue and ivory bound set of ten published in the 60's.

I liked 'em so much that when I got married, I "stole" my folks' set. (I really should buy my own & give theirs back. )

I remember those books. We didn't have them though. With 9 kids, we went to the library. My favorite books as a kid were the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary, I loved them so much when I went to college my mom bought me my own copy of Ramona the Brave. I still have it. I also loved Nancy Drew and read just about everyone of those.

Mom and Dad had a set of white bound encyclopedias on their bookshelves, and the also had a set of more encyclopedias kind of geared for teens called "The books of knowledge." The volumes were brown. Used these books for book reports etc... Does anybody even have encyclopedias at home anymore?

We have two sets of encyclpedias! Bought them both for a few dollars at yard sales! I love them. So much doesn't change that they are still worthwhile to us. I also hate looking everything on the computer! Give me an old fashioned book any day of the week!

Would love to have the other set! Those look like great stories. Loved Little House, Nancy Drew, Judy Blume, Henry Huggins, and biographies growing up. Still do.

snoopy - I never liked Nancy Drew books at all. But I LOVED the Hardy Boys series and read my dad's and brother's, some of 'em over and over.

orvilleair - I know my folks have a set of encyclopedias they had for as long as I can remember. And I've got a very outdated set that I picked up along with half-a-gazillion other books for a grand total of $2.50 at an estate sale.

I read all of the Nancy Drew books!
& I loved Beverly Cleary too......Ramona the Pest was a personal favorite

My favorite books were Nancy Drew and I read everyone. Of course I always had my nose in a book all the time, even between classes I would read.

As a kid, I read all the Nancy Drew books, and the Trixie Belden series. Happy Hollisters and Bobbsey Twins, Beverly Cleary, some Judy Blume. Most of the Wizard of Oz, several of the original Raggedy Ann and Andy. Gee, I think I answered a list about that long about what I like to read today. Reading has been a lifelong habit for me!

I don't remember the series listed at the top of this thread, but my parents bought us the Walt Disney series of collected stories. They were hardback books that had a whole bunch of stories in them. My mom actually sent me 3 or 4 of them that had survived recently. One that I remember had the American stories, and included the Uncle Remus stories from Song of the South. I think that same one had Blackbeard's Ghost, and some stories set in Disneyland. Anyone else have those books?

I never had these as a kid, but I'm thinking these sound an awful lot like a set of Encylopedia like books our neighbors gave the girls when they moved.

I don't think these are the ones you're refering to, but we had this set of Disney books. (I "stole" those too. )

Well, considering all the stuff I've "stolen" is theirs, I imagine so. They've taken a few of their records back (along with some of mine, LOL), but to my knowledge none of the books I lifted have been missed. My parents aren't exactly big readers, and neither are my siblings overall. At any rate, my folks have my wedding dress, my ice skates, all my piano books and who knows what else. I guess that's enough to hold over my head if they someday want me to cough up the "hot" stuff.

I loved Little House on the Prairie books and Pippi Longstocking. A little younger, but I also remember loving Amelia Bedilia (sp?)!

My favorite book when I was young was The Bridge Over Taribithia. I really need to re-read that book. I just remember crying so hard reading that.

Yes, that is one of the sets. I also had a set that was a solid color yellow, orange and red.

I forgot about Little House on the Prarie. Had all of those, and wanted so badly to be Laura!!

Trixie Belden-I was such a huge Trixie Belden fan. Jim, Honey, Brian, Regan, Diana, can't remember Trixie's other brother-Oh, yes-and her little brother, Bobby. Still have all my Trixie Belden books, I don't think I'll ever get rid of them, even though the covers are in pretty sad shape now.

I had Colliers Junior classics. They had the best stories and illustrations. I ended up finding the whole set ant an antique shop, and now my kids are enjoying them.

Grew up with the red version of this set. I read from the first volume to my dds all the time. (Sadly volume 1 has taken a beating over the years and the spine needs repair.) I saw a complete red set in mint condition on ebay last year but it was out of my price range.

I also loved Nancy Drew, Dana Girls, Vicki Barr, X Bar X ranch and 3 Investigators books.

I think my favorite book as a grade-schooler was James & the Giant Peach. I haven't watched the movie b/c I didn't want to distort the images I have in my head from the book.
