We are leaving this Friday, and I can't believe how nervous I am.

When I scheduled this vacation last year I was worried about taking my kids out of school since DD15 is now in 9th grade. Now this isn't even a concern I called and talked to the guidance counseler and she told me what I needed to do and all the teachers have been very good about helping us out.:lovestruc

Maybe if i list all the things that are bothering me I will feel better:

1. We are flying home Southwest and I am worried sick (I think I am getting an ulcer) about us not sitting together, after talking it over with DH last night we decided to book the early bird check in but that doesn't even guarantee that we will sit together.

2. We are taking my Mom with us and I know she gets on my husbands nerves, the last time we went on vacation all together it got so bad that my DH snapped at me about everything.

3. We are on the DDP and I have been trying to make reservations LOL enough said that is stressful!! Then when I think I have them all done DD12 says mom are we eating at cinderellas castle I always wanted to do that. This is me:sick: No I thought they would hate that so I didn't even consider it.

4. My dog who will be staying with my DB and DSIL has some sort of lump on her nose and we don't know what it is.:confused3

5. I wanted to get the house cleaned up before we went and my kids are off of school today for an act 80 day and well it just isn't happening.

6. I chipped one of my back teeth on Saturday and the dentist can't fit me in until the week we come home, now I am worried that I may break it more on vacation:scared1:

7. DD12 is begging to get her hair braided while we are there, I can find info about the hair wrapping but nothing about braiding.

I have never felt this stressed out going into a vacation.

Thank you for listening to me:rolleyes1(If you made it this far)

I JUST REALIZED THAT I POSTED THIS ON THE WRONG BOARD!!!:sad2: IT CAN'T GET ANY WORSE THAN THIS CAN IT?

I hear you - we are leaving Sat and I'm nervous too... mostly about the weather both here and in Florida. [getting out of here OK, having nice weather there so we can swim a bit, etc]

We too are flying SWA but I don't really care if we all sit together or not. The baby will obviously be with me. Other than that, the kids will watch movies to I don't care if they are away from me or not...

So sorry about your tooth - I once had a root canal before a trip and had complications... in any case, during a connecting flight stopover, got a cab to take us to a Walgreens to get a perscription filled. With me, anything teeth related is not good.

I also freak out that one of the kids will get sick right before we leave!! It usually happens. Last year DSnow6 got sick at HS; the year before he had to spend 3 days in the hotel, then I got sick too.

What can you do?? Listing it does help - Thanks!!

Hey Dislal - I hope I can ease your mind about Southwest. We've flown them for 20+
years and splitting up everyone was only an issue once. If you've arranged early bird check in chances are you're among the first group of 30. There are 120+ seats on the plane to chose from. There WILL be 5 together - it's just about a mathematical guarantee! If each of the 30 took every middle seat on the plane you'd have to sit around them, but that won't happen.

Are you a nervous flyer? Is it a long trip? At worst, I could imagine you and your mom and a kid sitting in one row, and dad and another kid sitting across from you one row up.

Please don't worry about the SW flight - you board together, in the first group, you'll sit together.

TxAg

By the way - best wishes on the dog and tooth.

I don't get very nervous, but DH and I do tend to bicker the day before we leave. I'm very much a planner and DH is more of a go-with-the-flow type of guy.

If all 5 of you can't sit together, I'm sure you can sit 3 and 2.

I worry about things too, but everything always works out in the end.

I hear what you're saying. The night before any trip I have a sleepless night which doesn't get things off to a very good start. And last trip to WDW/DCL about a million things seemed to happen right before our vacation putting it into doubt -- our cat got very very sick, then the Sunday before our Thurs trip departure, DH's 60-yr old uncle passed away unexpectedly. So not only was it very sad, but we traveled 6 hours round trip to the funeral that Wednesday, got home about 9 pm, and had to turn around and be prepared to leave by 6 am that next morning. Now I'm afraid of what life will throw at us just before our trip in 2011.

Now, that being said:

1. We are flying home Southwest and I am worried sick (I think I am getting an ulcer) about us not sitting together, after talking it over with DH last night we decided to book the early bird check in but that doesn't even guarantee that we will sit together.

Early-bird should help you to at least sit close by each other, and none of your children are very young. Heck, the 15 & 12 year old will probably love not having to sit with mom and dad. Plus, it's an enclosed airplane...they'll be fine if they sit seperately (and it might be better if your DH and your mom can't sit together ;) )

2. We are taking my Mom with us and I know she gets on my husbands nerves, the last time we went on vacation all together it got so bad that my DH snapped at me about everything.

Well obviously these are ongoing issues, whether the problem is with your DH, your mom, or with you setting boundaries. And you already didn't feel you could talk about it or settle it with any of the parties before the trip started, so the only option here is to either stand your ground on the trip or let it roll. Either way, remember you had and you have choices about what you put up with. That might make you feel at least more in control.

3. We are on the DDP and I have been trying to make reservations LOL enough said that is stressful!! Then when I think I have them all done DD12 says mom are we eating at cinderellas castle I always wanted to do that. This is me:sick: No I thought they would hate that so I didn't even consider it.

She's going to WDW. She's already getting a lot, and you shouldn't feel bad over one restaurant. You really are hard on yourself, so just take a moment to go ahead and give yourself a pat on the shoulder for being an awesome mom.

4. My dog who will be staying with my DB and DSIL has some sort of lump on her nose and we don't know what it is.:confused3

Poor puppy and puppies-mom. I'm sure it will be fine, but hugs to you all. Again, I've dealt with this before our last trip. Except our cat had growths in her lungs. If your dog isn't in distress now, I doubt there is anything you can accomplish now that you can't do a week or so from now. Just keep an eye on any signs of food, breathing, bathroom, energy issues. And even if something does come up, I'm quite sure your bro will handle it. I assume they can get to your vet as easily as you can.

5. I wanted to get the house cleaned up before we went and my kids are off of school today for an act 80 day and well it just isn't happening.

Well, you could get the kids to help clean. They're not toddlers, and after all, you ARE taking them to WDW. It's the least they can do :rotfl:

6. I chipped one of my back teeth on Saturday and the dentist can't fit me in until the week we come home, now I am worried that I may break it more on vacation:scared1:

There are dentists in Florida ;) I'm sure you'll be fine, just no chewing ice or caramel corn.

7. DD12 is begging to get her hair braided while we are there, I can find info about the hair wrapping but nothing about braiding.

See #3 & #5 :rotfl:

You'll be fine. Just breathe!

You're not alone, I get nervous too. When we fly I worry wether the flight will be delayed (especially since we usually go in the winter I worry about a storm or ice etc. causing delays). I worry that we will oversleep and miss the flight. I worry that I will have forgotten something important like meds, or my wallet. When we drive I worry about having a safe drive. I worry about someone getting sick and puking all over the car (that is a long drive in a puke smelling car). I worry about the weather (I will watch the weather channel constantly for the week before the trip).
I also worry about anyone getting sick before we leave.

Wow, now that I have written it down I realize I'm a nut and I worry way too much!:lmao:

It's totally normal to be worried prior to leaving, I do the same. Take a Deep Breath, Relax, and Enjoy your vacation. Everything will work out fine!

I too get nervous.
In fact we saw a great deal for airline tickets out of Pittsburgh for $108 round trip so we just booked a trip to WDW this morning and we are leaving this Saturday! I don't know weather to be nervous or excited.

When I purchased the tickets this morning I started shaking so bad. I have no reason to be worried but I am.

So you are not alone. I think we all have a bit of the jitters when it comes to vacationing. THere is just only so much planning you can do and the rest is out of our control so just go with the flow.

1. We are flying home Southwest and I am worried sick (I think I am getting an ulcer) about us not sitting together, after talking it over with DH last night we decided to book the early bird check in but that doesn't even guarantee that we will sit together.

I started flying with only my little sister when I was 9 and she was 5 AND we had to make connecting flights (the stewardesses helped with that though). So don't worry about teenagers on the same plane as you. Worst comes to worst one of you will be able to sit with the 9 year old and the rest are old enough to fend for themselves.

2. We are taking my Mom with us and I know she gets on my husbands nerves, the last time we went on vacation all together it got so bad that my DH snapped at me about everything.

You guys don't have to stay glued at the hip. Let your mom take the little one and you and DH take the teens or vice versa.Let mom take the kids and you and DH have a nice sit down meal or have a drink at the lounge at the Poly. Send your DH off to the ESPN club for a beer and some TV sports bonding. My DH likes my mom but he wouldn't want a whole week of her 24/7. Honestly neither would I.

3. We are on the DDP and I have been trying to make reservations LOL enough said that is stressful!! Then when I think I have them all done DD12 says mom are we eating at cinderellas castle I always wanted to do that. This is me:sick: No I thought they would hate that so I didn't even consider it.

Keep trying. Make a game of it with the kids, they can call reservations for you. If they don't get in at least they'll know what a pain it is to get last minute ressies.

4. My dog who will be staying with my DB and DSIL has some sort of lump on her nose and we don't know what it is.:confused3

What another poster said is true. Nothing you can do in the next week will change whatever is going on with your dog so let that one go and make sure you have an appointment for the vet as soon as you get back.

5. I wanted to get the house cleaned up before we went and my kids are off of school today for an act 80 day and well it just isn't happening.

The kids can help.

6. I chipped one of my back teeth on Saturday and the dentist can't fit me in until the week we come home, now I am worried that I may break it more on vacation:scared1:

Just baby it.

7. DD12 is begging to get her hair braided while we are there, I can find info about the hair wrapping but nothing about braiding.

I've never seen hair braiding at Disney. Having her whole head braided would be VERY pricey at a salon, at a resort would be $$$$$$. She will live.

I personally freak out about any of us getting sick before or during vacation. That's my pet paranoia;):rotfl:. Have a great time.

Oh I know! We leave Thursday and I get this e-mail today saying our return flight merged from NW to Delta...so I get a new confirmation # for the Delta flight and I log in to make sure our seats are the same and it shows our first flight with NW and no seating! :scared1: They aren't merging January flights...just Feb and beyond...so I call Delta and she's like, oh it's fine, it won't show up cus it's January and we're not merging those right now. I'm like, well I hope you're right cus I chose our seats 60 days ago or whenever and we have a 4 year old with us!

I'm starting to get a sore throat today...been sick free all year except DD4 and I got H1N1 during Halloween but that's it...now I'm getting this. Grrr...worse case, I can rush to the dr Weds or Thursday if it's not better...but I worry about DD getting it more than anything...

I panic too, it's been like 4 months since I booked the trip and never thought it would get here and now it's here and I'm like :scared1:never in my life have I had to do so much planning for a trip. I'll need a vacation when I get home!!!! Any trip after this will be a total snap and I will have ZERO worries planning anything else!

I feel your pain--albeit for a very different reason. I have to fly alone next Tuesday to get to Disney, and I am probably the world's most terrified fly-er!!!! Hopefully we will both get there safely and enjoy our visits to the World!!:scared1:

Thank you for all your great replies it makes me feel better knowing other people have the same feelings and fears:goodvibes

We did end up getting most of the house cleaned up today, the kids each had a room plus their bedroom to keep clean and I will give them a new room tomorrow. They were very protective of anyone else making a mess in THEIR room:rotfl: I need to do that more often.

I never thought about leaving the kids with my mom and going out for a drink with just my DH, thank you that sounds like something we will try.

I know my dog will be alright with my DB and SIL they have a dog (both dogs get along great) and I always tease them that they take better care of their dog than I take care of my kids.

I went out today and bought all kinds of cold medicine to pack, and I hope we won't use it.

Thank you all for the great advise and I hope everyone who is going on a trip soon will have a great time.

I am flying out on Friday too. Not able to sleep. Watching the weather. Fretting over daughter's homework that she needs to finish ahead. Will it be cold? We aren't doing dining plan. First time off site. The list is endless...Worries seem to be worse when I should be sleeping.:scared:

Joining the worrywarts! :scared1:

We leave Thursday and we are driving!

I am worried about the weather, leaving my pets (who will be taken care of by my parents), the school work my kids are missing, the work I will be missing, the car...how the kids will behave cooped up in the car for two days...:rolleyes1

I am sure everyone will have a great time! Everything always works out-which is what I tell myself before every trip that I worry myself sick about.
