Anyone else get lost driving on Disney property???

We were at disney for 8 nights. I thought it would be so much easier to drive than take the bus. I was wrong!!! We got lost the first 3 days badly. The signs are confusing and we had maps!! We stayed at Pop. The first night we tried to get to the contemporary for dinner at chef mickeys and ended up in MK's parking lot. We were 20 minutes late for our ADR. It was very frustrating. The next day getting to epcot was another nightmare. We missed the exit to epcot. After a few days, we got the hang of it. By our 4th day, we decided to just take the bus every day. Our car gave us some trouble and needed a new battery anyway. DBF tried to get to a walmart and ended up all the way in kissimmee by himself and couldn't find his way back. Many times we ended up on I-4 off of disney property. We finally learned it well by the time we left though. lol. Allow plenty of time for traveling!!!!!

I personally have a pretty intuitive sense of direction. (One of the ONLY things that I'm intuitive about!) So I have no trouble whatsoever finding my way around Disney property.

But I can see where it would be easy to get lost.

We used to but are learning our way around. The big plus has been a map that we obtained ... not sure where. Maybe the front desk.

We always take the bus too...but one time we were driving to WDW and we got lost. We ended up in some kind of weird village with this big magician dude ...it was weird.

Never been a problem for me. The signs are pretty clear, even if they do sometimes send you the long way.

We stay off property, and we do pretty well getting around when we go to the parks or Downtown Disney. But, when we go to MGM, we always seem to end up going in through some back entrance or something like that. And we always get lost leaving Magic Kingdom.

We have gotten turned around several times before. But I would rather be lost on WDW property roads then in Chicago rush hour traffic

Never really has been a problem to me. I am extra alert for signs there though.

We've always had good luck while driving on our own. We just follow the signs and get where we need to be.

No problems getting around for me. I was nervous the first time I drove around Disney, so I paid REALLY close attention. Usually, once I've driven somewhere one time, I can get back to it without too many problems.

I totally agree with you. We inevitably miss a turn every time we are there. I think the signs are bad myself. For example, the signs will say straigtht ahead to where every you are going say, Port Orleans (impossible to get too), for quite awhile and then all the sudden you have to turn. If you miss that turn, you are sunk. It is especially bad at night. Of course, you can always loop around and get back. I have seen that happen numerous times at the Animal Kingdom parking booths. We returned from Port Orleans last month and that was the worst especially the first night in the dark. We had to loop through the entire WDW property two times before we got it right. Oh, well, we got to know the place!

Back and forth between hotel and parks - we like to relax and leave the driving to the professionals.

Yes we tried to go from the Contemporary back to POP after dinner one night, and ended up in DTD.

I'm pretty good with directions and I've been there 4 times since 2003. The only place I always mess up is coming from AK. I can never get back to the resorts close to DTD the same way. I always have to loop around. LOL

My DS and his wife and my GS were there last week. Yesterday while I was at an IHOP, I got a phone call. They were leaving Pop and wanted to know how get to the Turnpike to come home!! Instead of looking on one of their maps, they call me!! That's what moms are for!

Even though it costs more...i think driving offers so many great perks....especially not taking the buses at park close with everyone leaving and a few exhausted kids hanging on you !!..

We have never had any big problems getting lost on Disney property...the hotels have a map with all the roads listed.....that coupled with the signs should get you wherever you want to go......I have missed a few turns here and there because of "sightseeing" but I also have found many cool things (monorail maintenenace center!!)

Santa is bringing a portable GPS unit for the car this week....will try that at Disney in the spring...just for some fun !!

I didn't see anything like that, but I know when you drive on Disney property you can't mess around. You have to read every single sign or you'll miss your turn.

First onsite trip in 1995 I tried to read the map. It was a disaster. Disney does not want you to do that... I released my urge to KNOW where I'm going and just started following the signs. As someone said, it may be the long way around, but follow the signs.
