Also a Rochester, NYer. I figured the storm would be a bust because not only did I go to the grocery store, fill my car with gas and rearrange a lunch date for today but last night when they closed 2 or 3 local school districts by 9:00 pm.
All the markers for 2 flakes of snow.![]()
But really, I didn't expect a lot either but was truly shocked that they cancelled school. My kids are happily playing out in it now, so they are loving it, that to me was shocking. Our district never seems to close so when we got the 5am call I was stunned! I think they are all regretting cancelling.Me too - plus right this minute it is sunny, blue skies and beautiful. Cold (34) but no problems at all.Yes central Arkansas, they at first predicted we were going to get it, but only ended up raining monsoon style.

I love the sensational media attention this is getting. I know a lot of people got quite a bit of snow, but the media coverage - at least around here - was a little out of control...especially since we live in a region know for snow.

Here in Ontario, we got a lot less than predicted, about 15 cms, but we are predicted to get another 5 cms. They were warning us about 30-40 cms though! It's very cold, and currently snowing, with heavy winds, but in an unprecendented move, they cancelled schools today!
I can count on 1 hand in my entire life the amount of times that our schools have been closed. We NEVER close schools around here, but due to heavy drifting, ice storm last night, and the heavy predictions, they decided to close. It was smart, as we don't have that many city plows, so we contract out private plows, which is exactly what our school boards do, so there would have been no way that they could have cleared all school parking lots by school start. Not to mention, janitors only are allowed to shovel certain parts of the school sidewalks, so it would not have been pretty. As a teacher, I was stunned when I found out at 5:00 am this morning that school was cancelled!
We are all hanging out at home today, and enjoying it, as hubby had to go to work and open his office, handle staff issues, etc. It still took hubby 1 hour to snowblow this morning - driveway, full sidewalk (live on a corner lot) and neighbor's driveway. If he had to shovel, there would have been no way we could have got out of our driveway.
Stay warm and safe, Tiger

Here in Montreal we were supposed to get 10 to 15, then they upped it to 20 to 25, then to 30. IT IS STILL SNOWING
The winds are the worst part I think. Blow you right across the street. Kids falling on the sidewalks, but NO cancellation.
I am up PRAYING that there is one tomorrow. We have had massive accidents, including a 40 car pile up, and two school buses colliding.
We saw that on the news. We are praying that you guys get a break, as it looks like you are getting hit hard. I think you got the rest of our snow!
Stay warm and safe, Tiger
