For some reason, I always feel a little sad on New Year's Eve. I don't know if it's the post-holiday letdown, or just that another year's past or .....:confused3 I've never really enjoyed all the forced gaiety that comes with New Year's Eve so we've always spent it quietly. Anyone else feel this way?

We're going out to dinner now and then will come home and watch the ball fall. Happy New Year to all my DIS pals.:hourglass

I like it when NYE is over...I feel like we are starting over, a fresh start.

BTW, DisneyAddict, your poor cat does not look very happy in that picture!

Yes - I do.. But thankfully not to the point where it drags me down or makes me depressed..

I think about the past - ponder the future - and always, always wonder how a full year could fly by so gosh darn fast!!

Dinner and a quiet celebration is a fine way to go.. Have a great time! :)

I'm beyond melancholy. I'm already crying and working my way through a bottle of champagne all by myself. I was just saying to a friend...32 1/2 years and I do not have a single memory of true happiness in it. But I keep trying...

I've always felt sad on New Years Eve.

My family are glad 2006 is now over, it's been a horrible year for us.

I always feel a little sad on New Year's Eve. Its the end of another year, I am another year older, the kids are another year older, but I am looking forward to the New Year anyway.

lol, that's not my cat. And he does look miserable, doesn't he?

Yes I always feel that way too......I guess I miss close family that have passed on and I truly miss them.:sad1:

I know exactly what you mean. I always feel great through Christmas and just as New Years looms around the corner, whack...I'm down.

The more interesting take on this, is I actually look forward to starting fresh and it represents a new beginning, not an end.

I know I'll feel that way tomorrow, but tonight is a drag. I'll just hug my family, watch the ball drop and tune in next year.

Wow! I thought it was just me. I was just wondering why I always feel a little sad on New Years. I think it's the end of the holidays for me, I thought the fact that I'll be at OKW in 18 days would make me happy, but I'm not.

I really don't pay that much attention to the New Year except to change the year on my checks. We really tend to think of birthdays as our New Years. This is when we (DH and me) sit and talk about what's happened during the past year. It's great though that we get a few more days off after Christmas.

You know how to ask them, TimeforMe. Yes, I too feel melancholy at this time of year. It is the Irish in me, with the dark clouds fluttering around in the back of my head. I think about the sad things that may and inevitably will happen in the new year. When I buy a box a tissues, I wonder what kind of tears I will cry. Life is hard, Life is sad. But I am ever-so-slowly learning about the glass half full approach to life. Happy New Year to you, too, and everyone! :)

Awww, :grouphug: to you! Don't give up. I'm at a loss for words for you. They say that if you're happy with yourself, happiness will find you. :wizard:

Thanks to all my fellow commiserators. We're back from dinner--hibachi style and it was totally yummy. DD18 just went out and DS17 is getting ready to go out, so it'll just be DH and me tonight I guess.

I always remember a co-worker used to always say "it's a good life, if you don't weaken" and it is oh so true.

Gosh, I sound depressed but really I'm not.:upsidedow

This year, yeah... Usually, no. Here's to a great 2007! :)

New Year's is sorta bittersweet - another year has passed and another trip around the sun is complete. I know I ponder the events that happened during 2006 (some good and some bad), but yet I'm hopeful for the opportunities for 2007. Happy New Year to you!

Very blah this year...Its b een a rough 2006 with friends being deployed, a couple of friends have died, and i just broke up with my boyfriend a couple of weeks ago..just in a blah mood tonight

Hope everyone is through the blues and the blahs. Wishing you all a very happy and healthy New Year.

I always have at least one good period of melancholy around the holidays. This year it was on Christmas, so my New Year's was safe from the blahs. I think it's normal to feel a little sad. I know therapists around the world would tell you you're not alone!
