Anyone else feel lthis same way about Aulani?

See I love Hawaii but prefer the sand and water in the Caribbean. I also love that the destinations in the Caribbean are foreign countries. For me that is a bonus especially when traveling with children. I also feel more welcome in the Caribbean in general. I've been to Hawaii far more often so I'm probably my taking it for granted a bit.

I can't stand people trying to sell you things at every turn (including illegal substances) You just don't get this in Hawaii.

Have you not walked down Front Street in Lahaina? :smokin:

I had also meant to mention that the airfare is a little less to Oahu so that's nice. And being west coast it's about the same time and price wise to go to Hawaii as it is to Florida.

True but Hawaii unfortunately doesn't have a Southwest route. So easy to get Southwest miles which makes Florida flights free for us :thumbsup2

Rumor has it that Southwest will have a Hawaii route...

For HI novices, the enchantment of going to any HI island for the first time is getting to know the culture, saying mahalo and aloha everywhere, going to a luau, etc. This can be done on any island, but I think Aulani does a great job in their offerings. It is also fantastic for those with kids (thank you Aunty's Beach House!). Pearl Harbor is something worth visiting at least once as well.
For veterans, Oahu gets a bad rap because of how busy Honolulu is and it is probably the least attractive island. With that said, I couldn't imagine only visiting one island over and over- they are all so different. The active volcano on the Big Island, the beauty, ziplining and other adventure activities at Kuaui (not to mention the most picturesque golf course at Poipu Bay!), the untouched splendor of Lanai, the over hyped beauty of Maui. I absolutely agree with Aulani being a "staging area" for other island trips.
Newbies should also be warned- there are a lot of run down areas on all of the islands so don't expect glitz and glamor everywhere you go

Unfortunately, once you have visited Hawaii, your opinion of the Caribbean is definitely impacted. I would rather spend a week on Oahu than the best island in the Caribbean.

For me, it was fortunate. Mexico, Costa Rica and the Caribbean are a bargain. I can get the tropics for much cheaper, without spending twelve hours one way on an airplane, and still have a very nice experience.

I loved Hawaii, and if I had unlimited funds and it wasn't such a long flight, I'd do it over Mexico. But when you add in the cost and the flight, I'd rather do Southern Mexico or Costa Rica. And if I'm going to spend the money and time on the flight, I'd rather go to Thailand.
