This was our first cruise, and we decided to book the Fury Catamaran excursion in Cozumel based on high marks not only in the DCL Passporter, but also on tripadvisor.com

First, the cat took us to a snorkeling spot that supposedly only they had access too. We went a ways away from the ship, but it was still pretty close to the road. Like we could have just parked, walked down and got in the water to snorkel. Then, they only gave us 45 minutes to be in the water. It takes me that long to get comfy in my gear and the water (which was cold..). There were not fish or anything around to look at until one of the crew got in with some fish food. Before you knew it, it was time to get back in the boat. On to the "private beach". It was a beautiful beach, complete with a water trampoline and iceberg climbing wall, but we no longer got situated than we had to pack up and go! They only gave us one hour!!

But, my biggest gripe was about the bathrooms on the cat. We took the first snorkel cruise out that morning, and I was one of the first on the cat. I sat right next to the stairs going down to the bathroom. No one went down to the bathroom before me, I was the first. I couldn't believe how nasty it was. Someone had thrown up all over the place, and no one cleaned it up! There was also no toilet paper and no paper towels. Now, I know no one went to the bathroom before me. It had to have been left from the day before!! (Isn't there a puking smilie?) At that point I decided there was no way in heck I was going to drink their water or margaritas that they were REALLY pushing. They seemed kind of upset that none of our group was drinking, as I'm sure their thought was to get us to drinking a little and we might tip more on our way off the boat. Needless to say, we tipped very little. I wish we had complained, but we didn't. There was nowhere, or very little space on the questionnaire at the end of the cruise to complain.

Anyhow, just wondering if anyone else had an experience like this with Fury or if we were just the lucky ones. Besides the bathroom incident, the entire thing was too rushed and we felt like cattle being herded around.

We also felt it was over-rated. The snorkel area was close to shore, right near a road, where they were doing repairs after a hurricane. The tour was supposed to let you snorkel in from 3 feet to 20 feet of water. Due to the 'change' in location, we basically were dropped into 20-30 feet of water. My grandson wasn't able to go in the water, and my daughter remained with him on the boat. We saw only a few fish, and nothing spectacular at all. The lagoon at Castaway Cay had more interesting sights.

The beach part was okay. Nice beach, but way too short a time to play there. We had food, but to this day, I can only hope that the hamburger that I ate was actually hamburger... or a reasonable facsimile.

To sum it up, we wouldn't do that again...especially considering what we paid. Over-priced and over-rated.:sad2:

I respectfully disagree with the negative reports of the Fury excursion. My husband and I actually felt that it was a highlight of the trip. He used the bathroom on the catamaran and admitted that it left something to be desired, but was not nearly as bad as previously noted. There were 2 bathrooms on the boat, so maybe he got lucky with the clean one.

We are not by any means avid snorkelers, so we felt that this is experience was fine for us. We saw a few fish and were satisfied with the location. We would not have been interested if this had been an intense, snorkeling focused excursion. Just a little taste of it was perfect for us.

We had a great time at the beach party, it was even better than we expected. Our time there was limited, but it was a lot to fit into an afternoon. We liked the timing of the excursion because it gave us the opportunity to enjoy Cozumel all morning and return to the ship in plenty of time for dinner. We did not eat on the beach as we did not feel it was worth it for a $9 hamburger.

I suppose it is a different experience for everyone.

I am new to the whole Disboards thing and am wondering if there is any easy way to find out ratings or get reports on the various excursions. We were scheduled to take the Eastern in Oct but the day before we were to leave my 12 yr old was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition and the trip had to be cancelled. She is finally doing well and we are now planning a Feb Western and after all the research on the Eastern excursions, I am overwhelmed at the # of new and different options of the Western. Suggestions?
