We were going to get new windows next year, but I think now we will do it before winter to try to get gas costs down.

during the last five years..

We did 36 replacement windows and insulated around them too.....we own a three story apartment house and the heat was literally going out the windows. so that was the start.......then we had vinyl siding done and they insulated when they put it on......and last year we had a metal roof put on........Our heating bills for all three floors was not bad at all......and we put the heat up so we are not going to be COLD......we do not rent the third floor anymore but we keep the heat to a non freezing level up there.......IT REALLY MADE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR GAS HEATING BILL....

I plan on keeping the dial turned down a bit this winter. :)

We hope to replace our furnace and A/C next spring. The both are about 20 to 25 years old, and aside from being on their last legs, we hope to replace them with more efficiant models. Our windows are new(er) but I'll be putting the plastic film over them this winter. Since this will be our first winter in this house, we'll have to wait and see if there are any place that cold air seems to be coming in from before we do anything further.

I also asked DFi about puting in a wood fireplace so we could partialy heat the house with wood, but he said it would be rather expensive, and we don't have the money right now. But something to think about in the future, we'd get much of it back when we sell the house.

We're adding a layer of insulation to our attic as soon as it cools off a bit around here. We also need to replace the windows on the back of our house, but I'm not sure if we'll be able to do that before the colder weather arrives. I'd love to get a metal roof, but I'm not springing for that until we're in a house that we're staying in long-term!!

We replaced almost all of our windows a few months ago (couldn't swing the big picture window yet). Need to replace a door yet. I think we could use some more insulation in the attic.
I hope it helps. I am sure it will.

Replacement windows are on order. Plan on replacing the front door, tearing out the sliding glass door and replacing it with a regular door. The kitchen window is coming out and we are not replacing it.
