anyone else disappointed w/MVMCP?

Our friends thought it was far to crowded and the same as last year. So not worth the money. We are in the UK, so have no chance to go.

We did the MNSSHP, and it was very busy ( thurs night) it was good and im glad we did it, however next year unless there are some change, we wont be paying out for tickets again. We loved Spoktacular at Seaworld which was free, and less crowded.

I cant see how had it would be to bring out some real rare characters on there night??

I guess as disney still get loads of $s from ticket sales, they have no need to change anything, the money still rolls in.

I was at MNSSHP on Halloween, and at MVMCP on 13th Nov this year. I was fully expecting to be disappointed in MVMCP because I've always read it is not as good as the Halloween party, but in fact I enjoyed the Christmas party better. Probably would have been more atmosphere if the crowds were bigger, but it was still awesome. MNSSHP on the other hand I felt was very much more for trick or treating kids. Yes, the parade and the fireworks were great, but I felt there was more for adults at the Christmas Party. We will look into going next year at the same time I think.

We went to the first MVMCP on the 13th and had a great time....

we had a ADR at CP for 4:10.....we were able to enter MK with just our party tickets without any problems.

the cookies were soft sugar cookies and cocoa was pretty good, but a bit of warning...........it was too hot for my DS to drink until it cooled off a little.

there are no free pictures.......just a special photo-pass card for 50% off....but the photo-pass guys seemed pretty scarce.

the parade, snow and fireworks were all great.

the only thing I was disappointed in was the lack of characters.....we really hoped to see some rare, unusualy ones but no luck.

we noticed CMs all night checking people for wrist-bands....there was a large group quietly sitting at some out-door tables in tomorrowland that was asked to leave.....so they do enforce it.

We were there from the 11-18 and the crowds were very low the entire week until Friday the 17th........I guess the Thanksgiving crowds started to arrive.

Also, we noticed when we arrived at MK on the 17th about 9:30am that they still had MVMCP tickets available for that night but when we left around 4 they were sold out. I'm not certain but I don't think the party on the 13th was sold out....it was crowded but about what I expected.

hope this helps..........have fun!!!!!!!!!!

We attended last year (on a Monday night) and it was GREAT!! We missed the snow too but had no trouble with lines, etc. The pictures they took were great - very nice people and we had the print in about a week.

We're attending this year 12/4 and hope it's as good as before!!

Glad to hear all of the suggestions on the party. We are going in December. My problem is where to eat. We are on the DDP although I waited to long to make reservations and all the table service times are gone. Anyone have any suggesitons on good places that would serve counter service at MK. Also what time to get there, what time to eat in order to see all the activities.
Things I want to do is see snow on Main St, 1st parade, and Fireworks and try to get something to eat without missing anything.

IMO, you can't go wrong with Pecos Bill's. We ate there before MNSSHP last year. Of all the counter service places, I think the only ones open with true seating inside are Pecos Bill's and Cosmic Ray's.

Ah - but Adults can go trick or treating at Mickey's Halloween Party - at last, a place where I don't get left out on what used to be one of my favorite three holidays of the year.

And I want to go trick or treating because? I can get nicer sweets/candy at home. Not meaning to be sarcastic, but trick or treating is not the reason I go there. And it is always a special day for me as it's my DSister's birthday.

We attended the party Christmas of 2005 and hate to say it but I have admit I am part of the not so impressed club.Crowds were huge and I didnt think the special shows were all that great especially after I found out later in the week I could see the same thing on a regular park day.Cant really say the cookies were worth the price of the tickets.

Uhmm because not all of us have kids we can take trick or treating, so some of us don't get to go at all? And because I for one very much belive in pandering to my inner child and she's still ticked off that she doesn't get to go trick or treating anymore?

I mean what else is there to do on Halloween? Go to a party and get Drunk? No thanks.

I would hope sincerely your penultimate sentence is not suggesting that that's what I do? I don't see the attraction in adults going from door-to-door or person to person saying "Trick or Treat". Dressing up, yes, but not asking for sweeties. And once you've tried sweets over here, you'd not bother with the US sweets. ;)

We went to one years ago that was very disappointing because of how crowded it was and we haven't been since. We were thinking about going this year but it's so expensive, I'm not sure it would be worth the money spent.

interesting to hear others' thoughts. i have heard on more than 1 ocassion that MNSSHP was better themed (or at least very different from reg. park decorations), and therefore perhaps a better value.

i think the cost of MVMCP is what gets me...i have always felt that i get such a GREAT deal when i spend money at Disney World (well, ok, perhaps i get a bit frantic at spending so much cash at the Poly!). there is SO much to do, and the attention to detail is amazing, and the CMs are wonderful. for this, however, i really felt like i wasted a huge chunk of money as the parks were already feeling so festive!

hope this helps others who will be attending other parties:

mistake #1: we got there early (5:30), but not early enough to beat the 6pm Wishes crowd, so Main Street was very crowded. my mil wanted to rent a scooter, but there were none available, so we had to wait near the front until others returned their scooters for the day.

lesson learned: should have gotten there by 5ish and rented a scooter from outside the park

mistake #2: by the time we made it back to catch the 7pm show of Twas the Night Before Xmas (6:40 or so), it was standing room only (not good with 3 four yr. olds!)

lesson learned: should have gotten back there early enough to get a seat, as this is really the only theatre entertainment at the party...we KNEW this was going to be busy

mistake #3: we then we decided to grab a "quick" counter service meal...that took about 20 mins. in line, plus another 20 mins. to eat

lesson learned: should have stuck with my original plan to eat BEFORE we left the hotel, and eat later in the evening, but the kids slept late and we thought that the sleep was more important

we then decided to head back to liberty square to line up for the parade.
mistake #4: we passed up some of the other entertainment to make sure we got over in time for the parade (character greetings, dance party)

lesson learned: enjoy the entertainment that is in front of you

it was still 3 or 4 people deep in line for the parade, but i didn't worry about that, i knew the kids would see enough of it from the back to enjoy it. i stood in the 15min. long line to get cookies and cocoa while the rest of the group waited for the parade. (that worked out GREAT..once i got the treats, it kept the kids busy to eat the snickerdoodle cookies while waiting for the parade).as it turned out, we had an INCREDIBLE group of people around us who continued to work with the rest of the crowd to get our kids (and others) up in front--truly, truly a beautiful thing to witness the holiday spirit around us...the adults next to us would call out who was coming next to my kids, so they would know who to look for (my kids would get all excited, everyone would enjoy the kids' excitement, etc...it was a blast!)

......
after waiting to see Wishes after we walked into the park, waiting to get down main street, waiting to get food, waiting to see the parade, waiting for the parade crowd to clear out, my kids were NOT interested in waiting for any other shows, parades, or fireworks. they wanted to ride!

we ended up doing rides in adventureland (little to no wait on rides), which was nice, but i knew we were missing the rest of the christmas stuff. after we hit the rides, the kids were cold and tired. i thought they'd make it to at least after the second parade, but my dh pointed out that trying to get out of the park with 3 cranky preschoolers with the thousands of others that would be leaving after the second parade would NOT be a pleasant end to a nice evening.

we ended up leaving 10 mins. before the 2nd parade began.
mistake #5 we did not end up being on main street at any time while there was snow!

lesson learned: we should have asked when snow would be falling (or even lingering on the ground!) when we got in the park. we asked a CM on our way out, and he said it would be after the parade...

i post all of this not to be a Grinch, because we really did have a very nice (although very crowded) time! i wanted to let others know of our experience because i thought it would be SO special that it would be worth the extra $300 ($350?) we spent on MVMCP tickets. on that evening, with my family, it was not worth it.

had i done things differently, i think i would have been more pleased with the event. i think the biggest thing for me would have been to get there earlier, both to avoid the crowds leaving, but also to find seats to see the night before xmas show and the castle show while my kids were still willing to sit and wait. and of course, i would have spent more time on main street to see that snow!!

hope this helps someone else have a magical evening!!

No, not at all - it was meant to point out that I could never figure out what the fun of Halloween was after you reached adulthood as the only thing I can think of for non parent adults is going to partys where invariably in my experience people want to consume massive amounts of alchhol... uggh.

It's not about the candy for me - it's about the fun of the hunt... it's kind of like one big whoppin scavanger hunt =)

Dressing up and not going trick or treating? What would be the point in that? I mean what do you do - put on your costume then sit around the house? (I mean I know you don't - you have a kid)

The Christmas Party is kind of a trade off:

--- See the Christmas Parade and Shows at the Party - spend the extra money

--- Wait and see the Christmas Parade and Shows free during regular park hours - but during the very two busiest weeks of the year.

I guess for me the Party is worth it. You do have to line up early for the parade. Ride lines are generally short; but that is because you can do the rides anytime - so that isn't the major draw for the night. It's really the parade and the fireworks that I am spending the money for. The cookies are a bonus.

Yes, Disney's Photo Pass, has taken away those free photos. The free photos were nice. The Disney Photo Pass pictures would be much nicer; except those you need to purchase at 50% off. The free photo was just of yourself/family/group - and not any characters.

Well, unlike a lot of people I see on here, our Disney trip is a once in a lifetime kind of thing. We will not be going every year, every other year or even every five years. We have saved and saved to be able to do this. So, that being said we really wanted to do everything we could within reason while there. We are celebrating Christmas with my FIL there (he'll be somewhere else on Christmas this year) so we decided MVMCP was the place to have our holiday with him. I am looking forward to it!

I don't have a kid - I have a sister who's birthday IS halloween. So Halloween is always fun for us. But we just dressed up for the fun of it, going unrecognisable into the MK. But I don't understand "the hunt" - over here we just would go door to door trick or treating.... do you do some sort of treasure hunt? And I thought you had to do a trick or tell a joke to receive a treat (at least that's how it is over here). Halloween is so much fun at home because we decorate the house and little kids do come round - the last time we were home for Halloween (which was 3 yrs ago following 1 trip to Grand Californian DL Resort, and 2 to WDW at Halloween) we had lots of kids over randomly because the house was one of the few decorated. It was a lot of fun.

I'm glad you have a good time on Halloween too, but I guess I'm not into the version of trick or treating that you are in the States. I'd rather dook for apples etc and act the fool. Heh, that's my inner kid. Well, I'm a young twenty something anyways.

Newbie here... What is MVMCP? Christmas party????

If the main is attraction is SNOW we will SKIP this one. We left NewEngland to see the sun not the snow!

I never knew Disney has so many acronyms!!! Makes me feel like I'm at work.

Freaky-I went to MNSSHP on Halloween and MVMCP on the 13th too! And I also enjoyed the Christmas party more than Halloween, although i thought they were both brilliant. It was my first time at either so I have nothing to compare them to, but I still can't fault them. :thumbsup2

please don't skip it just for that reason. the parade is fantastic, as are the shows and the character costumes.

We'll be leaving for WDW in 18 days and have been to the MVMCP twice before. We're not going to attend this year. We just couldn't justify the expense. First time around was cool and I guess we've been lucky because we saw snow each time we've attended. I think everyone who hasn't attended one party should try it at least once and decide for themselves. For us, we don't have to do it again unless of course things change drastically.
