Anyone else disappointed in BF Ads?

I LOVE BF. I usually am at Wal-Mart by 4:00 p.m. on BF. However, this year I am extremely disappointed with ALL the sale ads. I will be sleeping (hopefully) until at least 7:00 a.m.

I remember when Wal-Mart would have mixers, toasters and sandwich makers for $5.00, matchbox cars for less than .50. But this year NOTHING!! :guilty:

I guess I'll celebrate National Buy NOthing day.

I agree! This year there seems to be no reason to get up early. I've learned through experience that the super low priced electronics are almost impossible to get (though I've had some luck in the past :) ), and the stuff is usually an off-brand model anyway (cheap).

I'm going to sleep in tomorrow, then check online for any good deals.

Me too!

Looks like it's the big electronics this year. We're not needing those.

I was disappointed in the toy sales. Last year's BF had lots of the toys that we were planning buying for Christmas.

Sleeping late here too.

I agree, nothing to get up early for. Seems like stores are opening earlier and offering less in the way of deals. More sleep for us.

I'm joining you all in the sleeping in club. There are a couple of little things I wouldn't mind having, but NOTHING that makes me want to brave the lines. I'm going to enjoy my ZZZZZZZZZZZZ's.

I agree. Last year I found much better deals on the toy selection. There are a few things I want to get but no electronics. I'm not getting up early but just hoping the stuff I want isn't high priority & will still be there.

Our Walmart add had $3.00 toasters, irons, hand mixers and DVD's for $1.99. Still, nothing we need so I'll be sleeping late too!---Kathy

I"m not that thrilled either. Kohls looked sort of interesting and Ulta had something interesting as well. I bought the $2.99 SD cards online at Circuit City, so I didn't need to go there.

People are camping out NOW for BF! This is a meh year as well for BF. I'd hate to see the camping/tents out as a new trend for Black Friday. If so , that is a disturbing trend

yes i agree. it wasnt that long ago (and ive been doing bf for about 16 years) since i was like 10-11 anyway, that BB would open at 7am and then i tbecame 6 am an dwe still only got there like 2 hours prior to opening and we were still like 20 somethign in line...this new tren really s***s and i refuse to "camp"..oh well it looks as if i will never again get the really good deals....does anybody remember those times long ago??

I also agree, the ads were very disappointing! I was up early today to mark my route to shop, looks like I'm joining the sleep late club!

I blame the media - all hype, and no substance -

ok, add PS3 a nd that weird sounding Wii - and the media covering it!!

nothing we need - but I used to love getting the freebie gift bags!!

I use to love to get the free gift bags too!!! I remember when all the store use to offer free items just for showing up at opening time! JC Penny is the only one that I know that is still doing this (tiny snowglobe)

Well I was sure hoping to find a DS Lite for a sale price somewhere, but Nintendo must be policing the price they can be sold at because I have found nowhere for anything other than $129. There are some toys(for gifts) and actually a couple of appliances we need that the kids and I will be heading out for. (The toys are for relatives.) I am bribing the boys by taking them out for breakfast. DD was all set to get up at 5 am. to go shopping with me but I think we will just get there when we get there.

Nothing too low in price to make me want to get up super early and freeze. Instead I went to an very empty Walmart tonight and got myself a toasty electric blanket and I plan in sleeping in and then meeting family for my belated Birthday lunch. I may swing by to see if there are any of the cheap DVD's left in the afternoon but other than that I'm not interested in BF this year.

We use to hit the BF sales early but nothing in the last few years has really motivated us to go. Of course moving from a large city environment to the boonies has severely limited our BF capabilities. Anyways...I too remember the goodie bags that both Target and Mervyns use to give away, free samples and coupons galore. Heck, I have't even seen a JCPenney "Sweet Sale" in a few years.

Last year we swung by Shopko late in the afternoon and picked up both Candyland and Chutes/Ladders or $1.99ea. They had an entire pallet left! Although we did drive to 2 Walmarts late that morning for the Little People Playset on sale for $10. I thought about doing it again but we already bought enough for DD.

Bottom line, nothing looks too good. All the cheap/deep discounted items will be gone early so it's npot worth the drive, early wake-up, or waiting in the rain.

Somebody has it for $100.00...I saw it in the ads today, but I can't remember who it is. I was surprised when I saw it because I too, have only ever seen it for $129.00.

I am also skipping the early morning sales - that's why I'm up DISing at this hour!! I didn't see anything I needed to run out to get.

That's why I was almost releived that there was NOTHING I really had to have b/c it was such a great deal.

Thanks to this board, I have the $29 ipod shuffle for dd 8, dd5 (i would never get one for them if it wasn't that price) and one for DH.

We're doing a simple Christmas -- 3 gifts for each child. I would have gone out anyway if I had seen any leapster deals. -- BUT NONE in our paper. NONE. Lots of vsmile stuff.

Here's the real bummer. My son turns 3 today (BF) I had planned on giving him the train set/table that's been in MIL attic, but DH and I both feel bad and that thing ain't coming home.

I have to go out and get at least one thing for my son. It will be after a trip to the Doc in the Box. Probably Wal-Mart after the crowds die down. Last year I went at 9 am to Walmart and got everything I could have possibly been interested in.

This year, if I make it, I might pick up one of those $13 stick vacs (which was $10 last year!)

I can't sleep well tonight, but you can be sure I won't be rushing out for the "bargains" in the newspaper. :cool1:

I remember the Target freebies. I loved Target freebies--there was always something one year it was a Pokemon something--a backpack I think? Another year was kid binoculars. There were also coupons they gave out.

Best Buy used to give out freebies as well, such as DVD's, coupons and such like that.

JCPenney does the snowglobes, and Sears does the free $10 thing.

Kohls used to give out $10 gift cards the week after BF, but no longer do.

Poohfriend,

Do you have a Kohl's? They have Leapster games for $16.

It's 5:15 a.m. My DGD (13) slept over last night and wants to experience BF for herself. NOTHING thrilled me in the ads, but we're heading to Kohl's now for the 40% off winter coats in hopes of finding her one she will like. I agree with the other posters - a lot of hoopla about squat!
