Anyone else choosing not to upgrade from QSDP at value resorts?

Could we upgrade during our stay? I know there would be a possible $50 change in our reservation charge but we would like to eat at a couple of TS places and we could save those to the last two days of our trip...just wondering??

You have to make changes 72 hours prior to arrival. You cannot upgrade during your stay.

Thanks...one more question. If I upgrade can I use counter in place of table service if I choose. For example, if there are no good reservations left for a table service on a specific day can I just not make a reservation that day and use a counter service in it's place?

Sure! They don't care when you use the credits. We have some days with 2 TS reservations and before we rearranged things (again! :rolleyes1) there were a couple of days with no TS at all. Basically it's just a "pool" of credits for however many people you have, and you use them however. My MIL won't be eating some of the TS meals with us this year - she's using "our" CS credits and we're using "her" TS.

Some places will not allow you to swap CS credits for TS meals still. So that is a chance the PP will be taking.

We aren't upgrading. We have always done the Regular DDP. This is our first visit to a Value Resort.
We're also visiting Universal (IOA) for the first time so we will be paying for lunch that day oop.
Many of the CS places are just as good as TS so I'm pretty excited about it. We plan to eat at the Pop food court, WPE, and Captain Cooks for sure.
:yay:Can't wait to get there!

So after posting on here I've been thinking more about this and am now going to call and cancel my upgrade. In the end with tips the total upgrade would have cost me about $550 for 7 nights. After talking to hubby we've decided there are better ways to spend our money and if I pay out of pocket for a few snacks I won't feel guilty now.

I think that is the thing. By the time you upgrade for us for 11 days was around 350.00 and then the tip on top. IMO wasn't worth it we will pay OP for a couple of TS meals and call it good. We only have one adr scheduled but hoping to eat at the rainforest in DTD one day.

We have done the QSDP 2 times now and find it works for us.

We went back and forth with this, but in the end, we've decided not to upgrade. We've got an almost 2 year old and the thought of having to schedule ADRs was stressing me out. I have no idea what his schedule will be like. Plus, I'd rather spend the money on som extra snack instead of tips. We may do 1 character breakfast OOP.

We are not upgrading. When we last did the DDP there wasnt the QSDP and it was free...did the free DDP three times. The last time I was disappointed as I felt too tied to the TS and watching the time. When my DS went to WDW for his senior trip, of course they didn't do the DDP and loved hearing how flexible his days were. This nex trip is just DH and myself and we are looking for a slow down and smell the roses trip. If we want a snack at 4:00 and eat dinner at 8:00 so be it. If we want an early dinner that is fine too. This is also our first time at a value but very excited!

We were actually given a pin for DDP and begged them to downgrade it to QSDP. Everyone has their own plan that works the best for them, but for us we like to eat and run. We usually have one TS meal on our trip and that is enough, we don't like losing that much park time. Others really enjoy the break at the restaurant, but we prefer a break in our room.
Do what works best for your family and the way that you like to vacation.
We are very spontaneous on our trip as well and don't like to be tied to have to be at a specific place at a certain time. If we get to a park and the crowd calendar is off and it is packed we like having the freedom to hop to another one.

We aren't upgrading either. We used to do the regular DDP, but last year decided to try QSDP and loved it. With 2 kids under the age of 4, it's just easier not to worry about sit down meals and ADRs. We also are saving so much $$ since we don't have to worry about tipping.

It does mean no character meals for us, but we've done those before, and we'll of course do them again in the future, so one trip without character meals isn't a biggie for us.

With all of the great CS places (especially at EPCOT), we can still eat a nice variety of meals too!

We thought about upgrading because we wanted to do a couple of character meals this trip (now have 3 booked) but decided against it because :

I don't want to be tied down to lots of ADR's
After looking at the menus I knew DD13 would struggle to find things she wanted at a lot of the TS places
The cost of upgrade(14 days) then adding tips at the extra TS meals would have been way more for us than the cost of just paying for what extras we wanted OOP
We will have days offsite meaning some days we would need to fit in more than one TS meal which would just not happen!

So we have stuck with the free QDSP and will still struggle to fit in all the meals :rotfl:
