That's enough to make you change the channel!;)

I watched and it was really something to see! Thanks for the heads up, it seems like all the cable channels wanted to show were the wacko's.

A million, 200,000, tens of thousands ... it's all good. ;)

:p

How about this? A sea of people! It was a sea of people! :bounce: :Pinkbounc A sea of happy, shiny people! Well, angry/sweaty ... happy/shiny, it's all good. ;)

If Hastart is sitting next to him then you've got it on FOX T.Jay. . ;) :teeth:

C-SPAN does have a speech by Bush on now and then their going to show Cheney speaking from Ellis Island in a taped speech from this morning. . you get both sides from C-Span and with no Britt, Wolf, Chrsi, etc. telling you what you heard. . :)

Not surprised Brokaw downplayed the numbers Dan. . the major networks have been lapdogs for this administration since they took office. . . wonder if any of Daly's boys are still around? Maybe they could show Brokaw a few "Crwod Control" techniques for old time sakes. . ;) :teeth:

USA Today just reported this:

Police gave no official crowd estimate, though one law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, put the crowd at 120,000; organizers claimed it was roughly 400,000.

So the number is probably somewhere in between. . . :)

And you're welcome Belle; and you're welcome Peach Girl. . it really was a inspiring thing to see and I'm so glad it went peacefully. . . :) :)

My husband was there, marching near the big globe, he said. I couldn't pick him out, but he sounded like one of the happy protestors. Happy to be there and be heard.

While I disagree with them, I applaud those people for expressing their dissatisfaction with the administration in a (so far) peaceful manner. THAT is was America is all about.

Anyone have thoughts on the use of flag draped coffins?

yes, Elwood, it was very efective. this administration doesn't want us to see the coffins of our brave soldiers.

We've had this discussion before. It's military protocol and based on the relatives wishes.

Well said Elwood. . . :)

Personally I have no problem with the mock-coffins as a powerful visual image to protest the occupation of Iraq. . it was hard to tell from watching on TV rather then being there, but it appeared to be done in a respectful way.

I'll also add that the same type symbols were used to protest Vietnam and Democratic president Lyndon Johnson as well as Nixon and now Bush. . and I'm certain if Kerry is elected and keeps our troops their for any length of time you'll see the same thing protesting his policies. .

Mom of2. . very cool! :) I for one would be interested in hearing a little more of a "first hand" account of someone who was there. . if you get the time post something more about his impressions of the event. . :)

Democracy at work whether you agree or not.

Democracy is a wonderful thing. Events like this big protest remind me of that. :)

The cell phone connection was very poor, and we only spoke briefly when they had stopped for a moment and when he finished. His group had started the parade route about 11 and ended after 2, and he said there were still groups that were beginning the march when he was finished. Of course, there were people of all ages, races, and sexual preferences-- even just in his group.

They are driving back to Pittsburgh tonight, so I will tell you tomorrow about his impressions of the day-- unless some Dissers were there and make it back with their own stories. It seems kind of quiet here, today.

It might be "military protocol" Elwood, but it wasn't something put in place out of respect for the families. . that's just another lie the Bush poeple told.

In fact, the families had to raise all kinds of hell to get the bush administration to change the policy because they were forbidden to be there for the return of the bodies of thier children killed overseas. .

The Pentagon finally relented. . reluctantly.. . just a couple months ago.

Here's an article about it:

"New Pentagon policy allows families to witness return of war dead"

By Randall Chase / Associated Press

Saturday, June 26, 2004

DOVER, Del. -- As the family of Marine Lance Cpl. Russell P. White watched in silence this week, a military detachment at Dover Air Force Base transferred a flag-draped case from an airplane into a waiting hearse.

“We just wanted to welcome our son back to American soil,” White’s father, Gregg, said Friday.

White’s family is the first to take advantage of a new Defense Department policy allowing families of war dead to witness the arrival of remains at the nation’s largest military mortuary.

The policy change is spelled out in a memo quietly issued last month by the Pentagon. Previously, the government prohibited family members, as well as the media, from witnessing the arrival of remains at Dover, and discouraged families from even visiting the base.

The restriction on media access remains in place, with the Senate refusing earlier this week to overturn the ban.

But the Pentagon changed its policy for family members after critics, including families of war dead, complained that the military was trying to hide negative images of war. . .

not to mention -- the use photos of the coffins lined up to retunr from Vietnam was highly effective in the anti war movement 30 years ago.

so much for visions of anarchists throwing marbles under the horses' hooves...

Thanks Momof2! Be looking forward to it. . :) :)

That's been policy since the first Iraq war.
