Anyone drop free dining to get the resort they wanted?

I couldn't get the WL for free dining so we went with AKL savannah view. I was sad, but thought it may be nice. That was until I started reading the reviews about the AKL construction. I put in my dates for WL without free dining and they have openings. Because of the difference in price of a woods view WL and a savannah view AKL the difference in price would only be about $400. Would you consider dropping free dining to get the resort you really had your heart set on? Do you think it's possible that a room code will come out for September? I think they did last year and that would save us more money. I know I should be happy anywhere at Disney, but I am concerned about paying that amount of money and being disappointed.

I can not necessarily say we dropped free dining all together. Last year we booked an paid for dvc before they announced free dining. We canceled one night at bcv and added 3 to a value. So we ended up doing a split stay. The food tasted better when it was free! However we had a better time at the resort of our choice even though we paid for dining. I would say go for what you want. We certainly did not have regrets and felt that the beach club was definatly worth it. Plus we were saving because we rented the points from someone and saved money there. I would imagine they will have some sort of discounted rate on the room by then. If not look into dvc rental!

I think you should keep trying to get WL with free dining. My friend had a Savannah view at AKL and was worried about the construction noise (she has two toddlers and will want them to nap). Anyway, she was able to change this morning to WL woods view with free dining. So, don't give up.
