one of the farms nearby sells raw milk, I go there sometimes to pick up grass fed steak for dh.
I am tempted to try the raw milk,
the farm is 100% organic, certified, 100% grass fed cows, and certified to sell the raw milk.
right now I get our milk from another grass fed dairy farm, but they pastuerize and homogenize the milk.

anyway, i have read the pros and cons of raw milk, but just wondering if others drink it:)

Absolutely. We get our raw milk from an extremely reputable farm and the health benefits are wonderful. It tastes like the best milk I've ever had. By the time milk is pasteurized and homogenized there's nothing left. Try it!

have you tried it? does it taste bad??

Well I milked a cow once, and naturally, milk got on my hands, etc. It smelled really kind of awful, so I've always assumed that it'd be pretty gross to taste. :confused3

I grew up drinking raw milk and lived to tell the tell. We used to take the cream off the top and even churn our own butter.

It's rich, thick and delicious. Like whole milk, but very rich. We go to a local farm nearby and get some when we are in the area.

It's amazing to me that some states have outlawed it. :sad2: Yes, because as normal, we are incompetent fools who don't know how to live our own lives and can't make our own decisions. Instead we need a bunch of crooked politicians telling us what is right and wrong and moral. :rotfl:

It's funny - a few co-workers and I had this conversation on Friday.

One lady's in-laws owned a dairy farm way back in the day while she and her now-husband were dating (they're both now in their mid-late 50's). She said they would get some "raw" milk right out of the tank and that it was the absolute best milk she's ever had. She also did comment on having to shake the container up if it had been sitting a while because the cream does float to the top. ;)

I have drunk raw milk and in the situation you describe, I'd certainly try out the milk from this supplier.

But if I didn't find it tasted a lot better, I'd probably go back to the organic-but-pasteurized-and-homogenized supplier. I am skeptical about the health benefits of raw milk over pasteurized/homogenized. But that's just my two cents.

I do, sometimes, in the summer. We have organic farms that sell it at our local farmer's market. I've also bought cheese from them that is made with raw milk, and it's pretty tasty. :thumbsup2

I have drank "raw" milk. My grandparents had three cows. I couldn't wait to get to school so I could get the milk in the little bottles with the cardboard stopper. It was so much better. Am I tempted to try it again? Nope! Killing pathogens is a good thing.

When I was 10 my family moved to a farm and I had my first experience with raw milk. I remember vomitting violently. But I guess my stomach got used to it. I don't remember it tasting any different, although it did need to sit awhile for all of the fat to rise to the top to be skimmed off. We used the milkfat to make butter. Now that was delicious.

See, I was totally the opposite. When we moved out to CT, we had to drink the milk from the grocery store and I just remember it tasting watered down, even the whole milk. The raw milk was much more thicker and creamier.

Growing up, we used to have a couple of cows. We always drank the "raw" milk, although we did boil it once so I am not sure you could totally call it raw anymore. It's VERY rich and very fatty and if you aren't used to it, I would start with maybe adding it to your coffee and building your way up.

I did not drink raw milk as a child, but I knew a number of people who did growing up in the country (Alabama). I am not aware of any incidents from that, but I trust the information around the need to pasteurize, so I would not try it as an adult.

We all have to work hard to maintain healthy weights in my home, so we don't even drink whole milk, so I am probably not the right person to answer...

I grew up drinking raw milk because my mother thought it was better for us. And it was cheaper (this was 40 to 50 years ago!). I remember that she used to skim the cream off the top and save it for her coffee.

Now we don't drink whole milk so I wouldn't be a raw milk person even if it was available nearby. But I don't agree with outlawing it. People should have the choice of whether they want pasteurized/homogenized or raw. A lot depends on knowing the farm and cows the milk comes from.
