This seems to be the one character meal where you can order off the menu instead of doing the buffet. Has anyone done this?

What characters do you see? I'm thinking there's little chance of seeing a Princess.

I'm really torn about the time and money do to a character meal, but I'd love for my daughter to meet some princesses.

We stayed at DGC in August and enjoyed breakfast at Storytellers on our last day. It was Sunday and at the time we were there you could not order off the menu. There was a menu posted, but several people left after being told they could not order off the menu at that time. Probably because it was Sunday. It was very busy as you would expect. We were two adults and went for the food not the characters. The buffett was great and we saw Chip and Dale there, but they never even came in the room we were in. This was my first visit to DL but I am a veteran of many grown-ups only trips to WDW. At WDW the characters have always treated us like big kids, at least stopping by for a wave if not for pictures. Our server at Storytellers never even mentioned that the characters would be by (standard operating procedure at WDW). If I had been going to Storytellers to enjoy a Character breakfast I would have been greatly disappointed. Hopefully this was my experience only and others will confirm that they had a great time with the characters.

We just did this a few weeks ago, and had a ball. We ordered off the menu and the servers were lovely about it. No princesses here-- these are more earthy characters-- Chip, Dale, Timon, Terk, Meeko, etc. They were all very sweet and attentive to our 2 year old and infant. I'm looking forward to doing it again! You might want to do Ariel's Grotto for a princess meal.

I am confirming that we had a great time with the characters, and we are just two adults...no kids here! They didn't not stay and visit quite as long as they did with tables with children, but it also didn't help we didn't bring our camera. Since I only saw Brother Bear once  , whoever the big bear is, stood behind me for some time in a "menacing" fashion, with my DH laughing his butt off, and me, evidently too darn tired to figure it out quickly. Finally, I figured it out, much to everyones amusement!

I must say the one difference I notice between WDW and DLR character meals is that parents don't have their kids wait at the tables for the characters....they just let the kids wander and interrupt the characters while they are visiting at other tables. I noticed that on our last trip, too, and thought it was strange.

But to the OP's question....not a hairless creature in site. No princesses here, but the food from the buffet is great with lots of wonderful choices.

We did stayed at the Grand Californian four years ago and did the Chip and Dale breakfast. We ordered off the menu and we had our family Christmas photo taken with Goofy, who was there along with Chip and Dale.

No princesses when we went in Aug. It was a weekday and you could order off the menu. That is the best place for breakfast!!!!

We ordered off the menu as well. We went there almost every day of our visit (July 18-24). It is one of my favorite breakfast places. :teeth:

We have stayed at the GC about 6 times (since they opened). We generally eat at Storytellers. When we first went there, they had the characters come around to the tables. I have some really fun movie clips of the characters clowning around. They spent a ton of time at each table and made the rounds quite frequently. I thought it was one of the best character meals we'd ever done.

Then, a couple of years ago, they changed the format. They kept the characters confined to the area where the buffet was located. The said they had received complaints from guests about being visited too much by the characters.. :rotfl: So, they had it so the guests could come up to the characters at the buffet area.

I noticed on our last visit, it seemed to be a combination of the two formats. We were visited by a couple of characters at our table, but I think they had some that were stationed up near the buffet. Since our DS is older (16), we mostly enjoyed the characters from afar. But, we did enjoy it when the characters came around. I even took a couple of pictures (much to DS's protest :teeth: )

I may be missing something, but it seems like Ariel's Grotto is exactly what you're looking for, unless you weren't planning on going to DCA. It's a character meal with several princesses, and you order off of a menu. There's no buffet. We highly recemmend it.

We did Storytellers when we were there a couple of weeks ago, and although they let us get waflles off the menu, it was pretty much just buffet. And I'm sure this is NOT the norm, but the only character that appeared the whole time we were there was a racoon. (Maybe from Pocohontas?) It was our last day and we had a wonderful trip, so we just took this as our one nagative experience and didn't complain about it or even bother to find out why there weren't any other characters. Like I said, I'm sure it was just a fluke.

We just returned and ate there our first morning Sept 15. We ordered off the menu, because we were not that hungry. The food was so so, but somewhat cold and in the past the Buffet was always very good. I assume that they just got the food from the buffet line.

The characters where Meeko, Dale and 2 bears from brother bear. We did not see Chip during this time. They did come around to the tables and interactacted with each table. They did encourange kids to sit down and let the characters come to them. There was also a camp counselor there who was starting some games with the kids.
She had someone hide a biscuit from Meeko and he had to find it.

DH & I had breakfast there on Monday, 9/12. I was surprised how crowded it was at 8:30 am (DL didn't open until 10 am). We saw Chip & Dale in the foyer area and around the buffet, but Brother Bear and another smaller bear came to our table and was very playful and sweet. DH had an omelette and I had Huevos Rancheros - I didn't care for mine too much - the menu said it came with everything on corn tortillas - it came with colored tortilla strips sticking out of the sauce. The ranchero sauce was not mexican sauce, it was more italian - I was expecting refried beans - it came with whole black beans. Those factors made it not authentic to me. But the guacamole was awesome! Anyway, DH's was delicious and the service was good. With AP discount it was worth the $$. Maybe you can only order off the menu on weekdays???

BTW - the buffet looked delicious, we just don't eat a lot at breakfast time.

We did Lilo and Stitch at the PCH Grill at Paradise Pier (I know it's not the one you're asking about but...) and I asked about ordering off a menu. The waiter then brought over a menu for us to look at. But when I considered ordering a meal and adding on my OJ, for a few bucks more I could just have a buffet (plus PCH Grill gives 10% off for AAA, Disney VISA too I think). It was a Monday morning and the crowd in there very minimal. Just wanted to add my 2 cents....

We did Storytellers in June.. it was buffet or menu.. the menu was much cheaper for breakfast... and the under 3 set can eat off the buffet for free even if everyone else is eating off the menu...

When we were there the characters visited the tables.

We are lucky enough to be going back around Christmas time and are going to try the Lilo and Stitch breakfast as you can also order off the menu there I have been told... way cheaper for us... we are not large breakfast eaters...

Carole,

We did the Lilo and Stitch breakfast on this trip and it was the best character meal of the 3 that we did. (Storyteller & Ariel's Grotto). They did not give a menu, but we did not ask for one. We did the buffet and it was great. A lot of Hawaiian inspired foods. The did some dancing with the kids.
Loved the smoothies and coconut scones they have at the buffet. This was the first time I felt a buffet was worth, since we are not big eaters either.
