We did not do the tour, but went there ourselves to the park for the day. We thought the park was great. We paid $10 for a taxi for the 4 of us each way. It was $10 a piece to get into the park, but they did not charge for the kids, 7 & 8. We went snorkling, toured the remains (not true, manufactured) with a guide, walked around the lake and saw lots of lizzards roaming about. We heard the shows going on but did not go into. There was a restaurant and facilities there. We ate a large breakfast and took fruit, snacks and water with us, so we did not buy anything, DH did buy a beer. There are chairs and shade there. We totally loved the place. Saw lots of fish. When we were done we went to the front of the park and taxis were taking people back to the ship. The line was getting long so they called for more taxis, I never saw so many. Our driver told us they have 486 taxis. Any other questions just ask.

went to Chankanaab on our honeymoon. The snorkeling there is excellent.

We also took a cab on our own and went to Chankanaab Park. We took our own snorkeling equipment. The fish are amazing. We really had a great time and wish we would have had more time to explore. Here is a review I copied and pasted from Frommer's

Chankanaab National Park * is the pride of many islanders. Chankanaab means "little sea," which refers to a beautiful land-locked pool connected to the sea through an underground tunnel--a sort of ocean in miniature. Snorkeling in this natural aquarium is not permitted, but the park includes a lovely beach for sunbathing and snorkeling. It's best to arrive early to stake out a chair and palapa before the cruise ship crowd arrives. Likewise, the snorkeling is best before noon. There are bathrooms, lockers, a gift shop, several snack huts, a restaurant, and a palapa for renting snorkeling gear. You can also swim with dolphins here, for $120 per person. Call tel. 9/872-6605 for information and reservations.

Surrounding the lagoon is a botanical garden with shady paths and 351 species of tropical and subtropical plants from 22 countries, as well as 451 species from Cozumel. Several Maya structures have been re-created within the gardens to give visitors an idea of Maya life in a jungle setting. There's a small natural history museum as well. Admission to the park costs $10; it's open daily 8am to 5pm.

We were on the 9/14 cruise and went to Chankanaab on our own. Taxi is $10 each way, admission to the park is $10 for each adult. Kids are free. The sea lion show is $5 per adult. I highly recommend Chankanaab. It's a beautiful place. We did not go snorkeling, but it looked very good. We have 5 and 7 year old children, and they enjoyed the beach and we all loved the sea lion show. It's a cute show about a ghost and her sea lion, and a ghostbuster and his sea lion. You can easily spend a whole day there.
