I've been thinking about this one for October 2010. I'm not REALLY a runner, but it seems like you can get away with walking for the bulk of the race, and I know I could WALK 13 miles if nothing else. It just seems like a cool opportunity to see the parks at night and have an experience that's different from what we're used to. I also think it creates an opportunity to get myself into better shape in preparation. Not to mention- it's a good excuse for a couple of days at food and wine festival!

So is anyone else signed up for this or thinking about signing up?

I told DH that the registration would make a great Christmas gift ;)

I am not certain yet of this race. I am doing the WDW full in January 2011 (baring injury or disaster of other sorts of course) but might do this one as well. If I can talk some friends into going to split up a room it is a possibility. I need a couple of fall halves and this one would work out perfect with my marathon training.

Come to the WISH board and check out the thread for the race. Right now the emphasis is on marathon weekend next month and then there is the Princess in the spring so it might not be a lively thread right now but it will pick up.

I know there are several Podcast listeners signed up already. I am thinking about signing up also. I need to convince my husband to let me go.:rotfl:

I am also trying to use it as excuse to get in better shape. Also, if you want to walk/run I would look up Jeff Galloway Marathon training. I have never actually used the system, but I have a friend that did and really liked his system.

I'm definitely considering it, but I'm taking it one race at a time right now.

I pulled a hamstring and am dropping out of the half in January. Would love to a disney race with my daughter who is an avid runner. Maybe this one?

:goodvibesI'm definitely doing this one. I'm really looking forward to a night race; not being a morning person, this race really appeals to me.
And I will be mostly walking.

I'm doing the Wine and Dine and the Princess in March (my first)....Good luck to you.

You can do this! Set yourself up with a training plan, and you'll be set. On the WISH board (on Disboards) a book "Marathoning for Mortals" was recommended to me, and it helps you set up a plan for a slow build up whether you run, walk, or do a combination run/walk or walk/run. I'm currently using it as I train for the Princess. I started with the c25k (cool running) and have moved onto this now...

And I know of quite a few walkers who are doing these too - so walk or run, doesn't matter - your miles are your miles!

Thanks for all of the comments/encouragement! I'm going to look into the training programs and see if I can find one that's feasible while I'm concurrently working and being a mom :)

I am doing the half marathon relay with aspen37. We are already registered. Neither of us are runners and this will be our first marathon. We are planning on doing a combination of running and walking. (probably more walking than running)

I plan on doing this. I have a timeshare off property that I will need to use before March 2011 so I was think about using it this week. I can't wait to try this race out!

I and my fiance just signed up to do the half marathon relay today -- we are really looking forward to it!! HOwever, a word of caution on these events. I and my family have been doing the marathons and half marathons for years, and if you do the walk you must anticipate averaging 15 minute miles NOT the 16 the site claims. YOu must have that time for bathroom breaks, people in your way, etc. So train on maintaining at least 15 minute miles at the very least.

Well I'm so out of shape, walking 13 miles would take forever... plus at F and W, it would more be like stumble a mile and a half in then passing out.

I say we do a lazy man's marathon... Eat and Drink around the World Showcase!!!!

I just registered for the Wine and Dine Half, I waited until today because I intended on registering for the 5 K as well, but it isn't ready for registration yet. Maybe next week.

There is no way in Gods green earth I'll be ready for the half, but I will be doing the 5k for sure. I would LOVE to meet up with others then :) I tried to register on line today, but I could only pull up the registration info for the half and the relay:confused3

We will also register our little boys up for the 100 meter dash, too!

Ooooh, me! Similar to others here, I am not currently a runner, but this will be my sister's 3rd half and we are going to do it together! Registered and made my POFQ reservations yesterday - time to get moving!!!:cheer2:

Has anyone had any luck with registering for the 5K through the Magic Kingdom?

Registration isn't opened yet for the 5K. I am not sure why but it is probably a logistical thing.

At first they had said Jan 1, 2010. Now it just says Jan 2010. I keep checking back daily. :Patiently crossing fingers:
