Anyone doing the Nike+ Virtual Half?

So is anyone else silly enough to pay good money to run 13.1 miles on Sunday with their Nike+ thing?! You get a T-shirt and a keychain once you sync your run. They better be cool! I think I may try to go out early in the morning so I can channel our WISHers in San Francisco. Hopefully that way I'll be a bit more excited and will keep going! I'm considering taking Coach Harry in his stroller, but we've never gone more than 9 miles. I don't know how long he can last... (you can break the run up as long as you finish by the end of the day, but I'd rather do it all at once).

I also signed up for the Phedippidations half. It's the same weekend. You sign up, e-mail your time, and then can print off a certificate. You can be participating in a real race or just going on a LR. I found it kind of appealing, and it's free...

Jen - Erin, Lynne and I have considered doing the virtual half. It depends on what time we get in Sat after driving from San Antonio to Syracuse. Erin has to be to work by 11 so if she goes with me she has to plan on at least 3 hours. She isn't fond of getting out there too early to run.

Our training schedule calls for 10 miles, so what is 3 more.

NYcpa- OK, I grew up 3 hours from San Antonio. Did I read that correctly and you are driving from San Antonio, Texas, to Syracuse, NY? Or are you going to some closer Syracuse I don't know about?! That is one heck of a drive!!

Wendy- I'm thinking this is a good race for you since you may not have a curtain rod o' keychains yet! Seriously, I always think of your ridiculously cool medals rod when I see you post. I could only fill maybe a coat hook right now, but I'm working on it!

Jen - yes we are going form Texas to New York. Lynne is just finishing up a 4 week military clinical for med school and it also satisfies her active duty requirement for her scholarship. She didn't want to be there without a car so I rode down with her in August and flew home. Thursday I am reversing the process.

To add to the traveling, we are flying to WDW on Monday the 22nd. We will be there for the TOT race on the 27th and come home the 29th. Then we won't have any more long WDW trips until May 2008 when Lynne will be doing the Florida 70.3 again on May 18.

Well, I started my curtain rod of key chains!

I finished the virtual Nike+ Womens Half. Yes, Kim, the run was advertised and conducted through nikeplus.com. Not so great a pace for me yesterday -- I'd done 13.1 miles in training the day before and yesterday's virtual half gave me an actual blister. Hopefully it'll be no problem at ToT. Tonight I start packing: park passes, race confirmation, hotel confirmation, MNSSHP tickets... A lot to remember!

Hey Wendy- I finished too. I sort of had the same problem- I did my scheduled 6 on Saturday and then the 13 (and I have a small blister now). If you look on the Nike+ site, under Events and then Virtual Half I think, you can find a link to "share my pictures." Somebody posted pictures of the shirt/keychain. Pretty cute. I think the keychain will look nice on your rod!

Yep Kim- they are through the Nike+ site. I don't know that any others are planned, but I hope they will add more. I would imagine it's a fairly easy thing for them to do- charge you $, wait for you to sync your run, send a T-shirt/keychain. I'd probably do it again if it was about the right mileage for my LR. My LR to date has been 10, and I don't know if I would have kept going for the extra 3 if I hadn't signed up!
