We are going down in Nov/Dec and after much thought and debating, we have decided not to do the DDP. Times are tough, and if we didn't have our DVC room, airfare, aps already paid for we seriously might have had to cancel the trip. It is just dh, myself and dd (13). My dd and I are going to share meals - they are huge portions and we never finish our own anyways, while my dh will still eat his. We really like some of the restaurants and will miss not having TS everyday, but then I thought maybe we can do CS for L or D and then go to our fav restaurants for dessert. We love Sci Fi (I know, alot of people don't), but the atmosphere is great. I figure maybe we can go for dessert and "watch" the movie trailers. At the Plaza - ice cream sundaes and coffee. Try a mexican dessert in Mexico, etc. We do have a couple of TS set for the week that we will not give up, but I thought this might be something we can do and save a few $$ in the end. Has anyone done this? Do the CM's look down upon this? We wouldn't take as long as a full meal, so they can turn the table over quick. Advice anyone??

No I have never tried this but why not? You are a customer/guest too why can't you just get dessert?

Have a great time! It is a restaurant, you can order what you like :)

If I make an ADR do I tell them it's just dessert, or wait till we get there? I always wanted to do the ice cream social at GG and never got the chance. I guess this is kind of like that.

I don't believe I would make it part of my reservation request. You might also change your mind and decide to have an appy to start then dessert, you never know!

We've had dessert only at several restaurants, Coral Reef, Flying Fish, and Kona are ones that I can recollect. We made ADRs for Coral Reef but they were later and when we were arrived we told the CM dessert only, we were seated next to the aquarium. The others we just walked in.

Just make your reservatiuon and when you get there tell them what you want. A couple of our members had a dessert-only meal at Bistro de Paris in Epcot and had a wonderful review.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to look at the menus and see what has the best desserts and make ressies today. We always wanted to try Prime Time - I think I'll see if we can get in on our touring day there.

We've done this before and not had any problems getting seated. We usually schedule during a slower time of day i.e. not during prime time lunch or dinner hour. We've even done appetizers instead of a full meal, which can save some money as well. One of our favorites is the Chocolate Wave at the Coral Reef.

That's another great idea - doing apps for dinner. We can get a bunch and all split them - thanks!

lovethatmouse- you stole my idea! (I don't know how you did it- you must have special mind reading powers!)

It's just me and my 2 DDs this time (age 11 and 13) and I have every intention of just getting dessert a couple times. By the time you eat the huge amounts of food, there's usually no room for dessert, anyway. So I figure- why not???

PS- there is a desert at Rainforest that 2 or 3 people can easily share- I forget the exact name, but it is chocolate cake based and has the word "lava" in it. It costs (I think) about $10.

We do something similiar at Spoodles--we like Tapas so we order one of each of the apps that sound good to us, and maybe one entree to pass and share. Sometimes we get dessert, sometimes we are full and wander the boardwalk then stop and get ice cream or something formthe bakery later on. Our total is usually about $60 for all four of us.

Oh - that sounds good. I got 2 $25 GC from Mypoints to use at RFC or Yak and Yeti - maybe we will use one for CS at Y & Y and the other for dessert at RFC.

You can order anything you like in a restaurant providing it's on the menu. I once thought about just ordering a couple of appetizers at one of the Disney eateries instead of an entree but changed my mind because the entree looked so good. But, yes, you could just order dessert. Why not?

Two appetizers you ask? Yep, and probably the same appetizers. I thought about it, and might do it this coming trip. For example I love the Cheese Soup and bread sticks at Le Cellier, so I might just order a double Cheese Soup. Or, same deal at the Coral Reef, where I could be very happy with two orders of their Lobster Soup.
