Anyone delaying their vacation due to Harry Potter?

Well, I just got back from a week in Orlando yesterday and we're waiting until later to go to US/IOA. I simply could not spend that kind of money on tickets when I'm not a HP fan.

I mean, it was my thinking to go and spend the money on the tickets, but I kept thinking that this price hike on tickets aren't intended for me. I saw the price hike as intended for those rabid HP fans who would pay premium to drink Butter Beer (whatever that is) and "ride the movie" (or book.)

Close to the 23rd of September, we will be off the Disney cruise ship, looking for some fun. If the tickets are within a good sell price, then we might go to US/IOA. If not, we will just wait until next year.

Yeah, I feel the same way about how Disney's prices keep raising over the years like last years stroller rentals. I am tempted to wait until Disney lowers their prices to visit again. With Uni/IOA though at least the prices are cheaper than WDW. So, I will probably just do MNSSHP at WDW this October when I plan my trip to Universal since this way I will get the most value for my dollar.

As far as WDW, I will go there this year only if I can get Free Dining for the few days I have in Sept, or if US/IOA doesn't have a price break. I don't compare US/IOA to WDW when it comes to price, though. I want US/IOA less than $99 for at least 7 days, or $75 or less for 3 days. I want to pay around $1600 or less for 3 days for everything at WDW in order for me to go in Sept. (hotel, tickets, food, etc.) If not, I'm not going in Sept... (especially since we're splurging with them for Spring Break next year.)

Has Disney ever lowered their prices? (we don't go to Disney so I was wondering if they ever did?)

I don't think the parks (any of them) will be having a big price drop anytime in the near future....they all just raised their prices and Universal just spent over $200 million building HP.

Over the past 3 years, Universal has offered the 7 day tickets for VERY little. First it was $79, then $89 and then finally $99. Doubtful they will offer that good a deal anytime in the near future.

These MAY be the cheapest prices already......

Due to financial reasons we're putting our planned September trip off until next spring (and not during spring break). Hopefully by then all the kinks will be worked out.

We're not delaying our vacation, but we are restructuring it due to HP. It's doubtful we'll spend any time at IOA this September. We would like to do Universal if it's not too crowded, but if it is, we'll grab lunch at our must-do Finnegans and head somewhere else ... back to timeshare pool, DTD, stroll around Epcot.

We actually might add on a Disney water park day to substitute for what would have been our IOA day.

We're just not into crowds at all and not really into HP. The hubby is a little, but not enough to warrant heavy crowds for one new ride. We've been to the parks enough that we could probably navigate IOA blindfolded. We've been APH's since 2000. We'll return early next year when hopefully the hype is over.

Disney sometimes runs promotions like kids say free or free dining. I haven't really noticed any specials on tickets unless you count the give a day, get a day promotion. The problem with most of Disneys promotions is you really have to stay at least 5 days to make it worthwhile. Disney is really too expensive for us to do for just 2 days. I priced things out for Oct and I can stay at HRH for 5 nights for around $15 more per night than POP Century. Thats like staying at a Deluxe and then going to a value for around the same price. Looks like this year it will be just Universal and then a night of MNSSHP at Disney. Next year we will just have to see where the best value lies.

We got 1 room at RPR for $125 + tax (annual pass PIN code) and the other we booked later for $139 + tax (annual pass rate.)

I think those are wonderful rates and we are so excited to go.

Wow! Those are great rates! How does one get an AP PIN code? :confused3 We are AP holders too. Best rate we could find for APH for Sept was $164 (for RPR and PBH, surprisingly) for Thurs night and $194 for Fri/Sat nights.
