Anyone Collect Disney Plates?

Let me start by saying that I love all things Disney: pins, plush, lithographs, DVDs, bring it on! I am decorating my main bathroom in Disney. I have a Classic Pooh shower curtain and valance and framed some of the Disney Store lithographs for the walls. My parents found some Disney collector plates for me at an antique mall, and I love them! I have three Pooh plates, one plate celebrating the Magic Kingdom's 25th Anniversary, and one plate from "Mickey's Christmas Carol". I'm thinking about decorating one of the walls in the bathroom with the plates. Does anyone else collect Disney plates? If so, how do you display them? Thanks for the ideas!!

I have been collecting Disney plates since 1977 and I use them as borders on the top of my rooms - they surround a few of my rooms with lots of happy scenes. They were actually one of the first Disney items I collected.

I display some of mine in the same way. I also display them over the tops of doors and pass-through openings. I also have a Chinese Wall Cabinet on one wall and I have plates arranged around that. I also have a shelf above the window in front of my sink that I have plates on. I have tried to keep them in the kitchen/dining room area but somehow they are are creeping into the dining room.

I really like the "border" idea! I don't have enough plates to do that right now, but maybe someday. Where do you find your plates? I've found some nice ones on ebay at good prices. Right now, I'm trying to collect the Walt Disney World Anniversary plates. I also saw a nice one that Disney put out in 2000 for the "Celebrate the Future Hand in Hand". Are there many plates with just Walt on them? Thanks for your help!

Ebay is a good resource. I have found a good deal of my plates there and trade shows. flea market, antique malls, etc.

Two of the Walt plates that I have are:

One with characters all around his head released in 1986 for Walt's 85th birthday celelbration.
One from Germany with Pinocchio, Mickey & Tinker Bell on it.

I know of one other one........released to members at Club 33 in Disneyland. It was sold a while ago.


I'm sure there are quite a few more with Walt.

I only collect specific themes. Last Christmas season I was on a quest to get the complete set of "Mickey's Christmas Carol" Plates. I was able to get them all before Christmas and they are now permanetly on display.

Others that I collect are ones of characters.
Alice in Wonderland
Peter Pan
Tinker Bell
Pinocchio
Sword in the Stone

Plus, Vintage Disneyland Castle plates

I'm running out of wall space. A plate has to really jump out at me in order for me to buy it now. There is one castle plate I am looking for. It comes up everyone once in a while and always goes for more than I want to spend. Hopefully when all the $$bags on ebay finally have it........I'll get one for a bargain.

How about the base relief plates?? They are the ones that are like 3-D. anyone have any of those??

Right now, I like the plates from the different parks. I think it also would be neat to have a plate to represent each of the animated classics. Do you use plate hangers, frames, or rails for your displays?

I also would like to know the themes that other DISers collect.

I don't really collect Disney plates, but I have a few.

My framed Lady and the Tramp plate is hung on a wall from a nail. My 2 sets of miniature plates (Alphabet and World Tour) are currently "displayed" in boxes in a closet.
