We are thinking of closing in our 2 car - carport. We aren't really sure though what to use the area for. We were first thinking of just making it a garage. But then we thought it would be nice to have the extra room there.

the right wall of the house is brick -its the back of the fireplace & the end of the carport is a storage shed/area - its total vinyl siding.

We don't have a clue what to do with the storage area - it would be really odd to leave as is in the room.

then we have the question as to what to do with the space - what to use it as. We have a small house (1100 sq ft) we have a living room that has a fireplace in it & that's naturally where we spend all our time - the tv is in there & piano & couch. I think it would be odd to have a second living room/familyroom/den kinda room.

I do not visualize things well at all so I need all the help I can get -

So if you did close in your carport or would closein your carport - what did you or would you do with the area?

We've talked about doing it with ours, but haven't done so yet. What I would do with mine is make it a utility room (since my washer is in the basement now which is a pain) and put another bathroom in there, since we don't have a bathroom downstairs.

Just keep in mind what no garage/covered parking might do to your resale value...

We did this in our old house. Your house sounds a lot like our old one. It was just over 1000 sq. ft.

We closed in the carport and then put a wall up 1/2 way across (side-to-side). In the front we put a garage door and used that area as a storage room. We had no basement or usable attic space in the house. We also put our washer & dryer out there, getting them out of the closet in the kitchen (which we turned into a 1/2 bath). The back 1/2 of the space we carpeted and put windows in facing the rear yard and used it as a play space for the kids. In the winter we heated the space with a wood-burning stove.

We continued to use the living room as we had previously (our TV and piano were in there, too).

That sounds like a good plan - my dh mentioned taking 1/3 of the room & making it storage (but from the side) but your idea sounds better...

I forgot that we also put a door in the back 1/2 that went to the backyard so the kids would use that door, instead of the front door, to go in and out.

I'd love to have a screened room - but not there on the front/side of the house where the whole world could see me!
Or of course a scrapbook room - but I can't devote a space that big just to me!
I'd love to have it be a master bedroom - but adding a bathroom & we could never afford - I guess we could maybe make it a kids room since 2 of the kids share a room. But then her room would be bigger than our room! LOL

So instead of a playroom, make the back end a screened in porch. Or your craft room... he he...

You can take this place to grow plants, it not only without peculiar smell, still can send out a faint scent, do you feel ok?
by the way
