Thinking of going to Citricos for an early dinner about 6 or 7pm, instead of the famed CG. Are we mad to do this?!! Pollite answers only please!!

Gude books make a lot of remarks such as "if you only have time to do one Signature Dining experience... choose CG

We TRIED to choose Citricos over CG, but they're closed a few days a week. Monday and Tuesday maybe?

That might impact your decision.

I've eaten at both, and they are both wonderful...you can't go wrong.

However, that being said, if you haven't eaten at either place before, I would recommend you go with the California Grill, just because they also have the added touch of a can't-be-beat view, and you can time it for the fireworks. They pipe in the music and it's very magical.

Side note, Cali Grill can be a little loud. If you are mainly looking for a quiet romantic dinner, go with Citricos...it usually a lot more subdued in there.

Just my opinion! Either one you will enjoy!

Interesting question. I'm a big, big, big CG fan, so never made it over to Citricos until recently. CG reservations seem to be increasingly hard to get, annoyingly so. So recently I ended up over at Citricos as a second choice.

I was very impressed... I came away thinking it was one of the best meals/dining experiences I've ever had at Disney. To some it up, while I'd say the CG menu has more interesting choices overall, the execution of what was on Citricos menu was near flawless. So I'd say that while CG is more of a destination if you've never been (although I think viewing the fireworks from CG is a *very* overrated experience - and that's being said by someone who is seriously into both CG and Wishes) from a food point of view you won't be disappointed in Citricos at all.

Citrico's has very good food. I would not hesitate in recommending it to foodies. A plus that it has over CG is that it is more of an adult-only restaurant while it does allow children, it doesn't attract nearly as many as CG does. The restaurant has more a big-city restaurant feeling than a theme park feeling.

To be fair I have yet to eat at either, but when we were deciding on our last meal for our trip in June I gave my husband a list of signature dining options his top three were:

Flying Fish
Artist Point
Citricos

My top three on the other hand were:

California Grill
Flying Fish
Citricos

So since hubby did not want California Grill at all we decided on Citricos because he liked the food options there better and they had better desserts he would eat. We then went through the menus later and decided on Flying Fish instead since we just overall liked the menu choices better. However, to answer your question, yes we would do Citricos over California Grill since based on the menus we saw it was a better choice for what my husband likes to eat.

It kills the Cali Grill. But Cali does have the view.

Citricos is the best at WDW with the exception of V&A's. The view is better at CG but that's not enough compensation over the noise and also how busy CG has gotten. I don't think you will be dissapointed in either if you've never been. If you go to CG don't worry about trying to see Wishes. The best place for that is in the MK with the one you love.

I would say Citricos even with the chef change. The food is still really good. I found California Grill to be over rated and the sushi to be average. Citricos is more romantic while if you want a NY feel with a view, go for CA Grill.

CG is a zoo with people staying late and getting there early to see Wishes. You get the view at CG but will have a more relaxed dining experience in one of the other signature restaurants.

I have eaten at both restaurants twice. First experience at CG was horrendous....waiter from ....very pushy, actually told my best friend not to order what she really wanted, get something else (I had ordered the filet and she wanted the same, the waiter was so insistent it was uncomfortable!!.) Now we are both waitresses, been in the restaurant business for 35 years both as servers and I as a manager for quite a number of years so we are not easily intimidated in a restaurant. The waiter never stopped talking at our table until of course we needed something later, then he could not be found. It was also so cold with the air conditioning we were freezing, yes we had sweaters. Food was OK , not great and hard to appreciate after the service and the cold. We went back a couple of years later and had a good meal and very good service but nothing I would ever rush to do again. Citricos on the other hand was fabulous both times, food, service and ambiance, going back there on my upcoming trip. Also tried BlueZoo on our last trip, best dining experience we have had at Disney, great in every way.

One thing about Citricos...you could always eat there before Wishes, and then watch it from the beach or marina at the GF. The food at Citricos does appeal to me more than CG.

Citrico's all the way!! Dh and I just spent our 10yr anniverary dinner there and it was great... Good atmosphere very subdued and relaxing great staff and you could tell everyone was there just to have a good dinner and a good time..not at all the zoo type enviroment you find at CG

We LOVE Citricos!! Mostly adult only atmosphere, fairly quiet, excellent service, and the food was divine. Just top notch all the way around.

We chose it because we didn't want the loud family atmosphere that CG often has due to Wishes. We didn't regret it - it's the best meal I've had at WDW ever.
