have a large group (10-14 people) who wants to go see the stingrays and am planning on chartering our own boat from captain marvins, but now I've found companies that will carter 40ish foot sailboats for around the same $$, but I haven't heard of any of the places. Anyone done this??

We just returned for the Western Cruise last week and we booked a private sailboat through a company called Red Baron. I cannot say enough about the trip. The price was $325.00 and worth every penny.

We were on a 42' sailboat and the captains name was Mike. We went to a quiet area and when we set anchor, we could not only see the sandy bottom but there were approx. 15 stingrays of various sizes. Mike hopped in and was willing to hold the rays up for us so we could pet them. We then had the option of swimming with them. Three out of five of us did. Those creatures can be a little unnerving.

We then sailed over to a private reef and went snorkeling for as long as we wanted. The snorkel equipement was all provided and was very good.

When we were done, we were served pop, water and a fruit platter. We then took a leisure sail back to the Grand Cayman Yacht Club.

The website we used was www.grandcaymanshoreexcursions.com
Hope this helps. We had an excellent time and would recommend them to anyone.

Sorry the link didn't work but I'm trying. Try this one www.grandcaymancruiseexcursions.com You have the right company with the link you indicated.

They actually have a bigger boat. I couldn't see it on your link. We took the larger sailboat.

We got off the Disney Magic on the first tender 7:30. Got a cab (5 or 6$ per person) and took it to the Cayman Yacht Club. We arrived by 8 AM and set sail at 8:30.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

thanks -- I just booked the larger 46' boat! Did they have snorkel gear for little kids, 5 - 11 years old??

They had snorkel equipment in all sizes. Our youngest was 11 and they had equipment for him. You might want to email Mike and Neil with sizes just to make sure but they did have quite a few sets on the sailboat. Make sure you take lots and lots of sunscreen for the beautiful day you are going to have.
