My hubby and I are thinking of joining and would like to know from fellow Canadians what your experiences and feedback is re: this.
We live in Mississauga.
Thanks so much!

We are members and just gotback from our first trip "home" to Saratoga Springs. It was fabulous and we highly recommend that you look into the program. If you like to travel this is a great value for your money! :cat:

AW, so you really did enjoy yourselves!

So have your written out a trip report!?!

Enquiring Minds want to know!LOL

Back to the question at hand ~ There are quite a few of us that are DVC owners! And with the $$ doing a whole lot better lately, looks like a few more will be joining the ranks!

I for one love it! So does DD!

It is great to be able to get up in the morning, grab a real coffee and head out onto your balcony to watch the day begin!

DD likes that she can have her breaky and watch TV!LOL Have those bisciut sandwiches that we are not privy to here in Canada!

And the Room! Our first stay was in a studio and we loved it! Our second was a one bedroom and I must say it will be hard to go back to a studio! Having that Jacuzzi is wonderful! And then not having a bill when you check out, unless of course you spend money!LOL

Just remember, buy where you would like to stay! This will give you the 11 month advantage. I have yet to have problems booking at other resorts even after the 7 month window.

I even just booked VWL for our Labour Day Weekend! I even managed to get BCV for this past christmas at 4 months out! I did waitlist but it came thru!

If you plan on going to Disney at least once a year or every 2nd year, well worth looking into!

I am a DVC member too! I bought in OKW last year and stayed at BWV on our first trip home last August. Everything was great! We stayed in a studio and Epcot is just minutes walk away. We even saw the test fireworks they did at night! :flower:

and love it!!

Though, we have to admit, some of the resale prices are getting pretty tempting to sell our 160BCV points, and then get a smaller OKW contract.

That's a great point to buying DVC...Disney's "right of first refusal" makes it pretty hard to "lose" lots of $$ when you do purchase. Not saying that DVC is a financial investment that you will make money on...just that we feel DVD has done a good job for us:)

Poke around on www.tug2.net There's a great information "primer" on timeshares, and prepaying vacations. And if you have any more questions, feel free to ask:)

Awesome purchase if you love Disney! After purchasing in Feb/04 @ SRR we were able to go down in October, get a 2BR, bring 6 others who have never been to Disney before and have a blast! It didn't seem *that* crowded in the 2BR, but it was soooo much fun! We even went down again in February and stayed at the BWV in a studio.. very relaxing and convienient, especially with the kitchen/kitchenettes. We were able so save soooo much money by being able to slap a sandwich together, have toast and cereal, etc etc in our rooms. When we were down in October for the week we only spent $200US for food for the entire week for 8 people. AMAZING what a little planning ahead can do.

We're going to bank the rest of our points into next year and plan for the '06 F&W festival, rent out a couple of rooms for both our parents and have a BLAST!
DVC is AWESOME. It makes you want to vacation!

I bought at the Beach Club and stayed there once. I have been to Orlando the last 3 years and have stayed at All Star Movies, Beach Club (2 bedroom), and offsite (house), respectively, with our 2 kids. I enjoyed staying at the Beach Club because the All Star Movies was too small and I found the offsite entailed too much drviving around very conjested highways. I am from Toronto, so I am used to the traffic, but I found Orlando even more frustrating than Toronto. Looking forward to the peace next year of staying in a big place onsite (we have enough DVC points for a week every second year).

Hi, we've been DVC owners at OKW since 1996. We love Disney and go there every couple of years but in-between times we've also been able to use our points for other amazing opportunities. We've done the Disney cruise a couple of times, stayed at Disneyland California and Disneyland Paris (park passes included, yeah!!!). We've also used the concierge collection to stay in San Francisco and, just last week, London, UK. And on the one very unfortunate occasion when we just couldn't fit in a vacation, we were able to rent out our unused points to help someone else have a magical vacation and put a little cash towards our next one. It's been a great, great purchase for us, one that we've never had a moment's regret in making.

We love it our only regret was not joining after we saw the place the first time we toured. We now own HHI VB and SSR.

We just joined DVC and are hoping to be going home this Jan/06!
It is such an exciting purchase and one that you will be able to enjoy for years to come, especially if you have a young family!

good luck

Hi Everyone:

I am still confused on the whole dvc idea, especially for canadians with the exchange rate.

Thinking of my family we can only get to disney every two years, and I understand every year you have to pay a fee if you are a dvc owner. Is it still a deal. I am just using a ball park number say $600 u.s. a year for a fee, and I go every two years, couldn't I rent a place for the 1200 u.s. in fees for 5 days sun to thurs, (I left out friday, sat as most people say they use too many points then) and not have to put out the 14,000 to buy a timeshare. I guess I just don't get it.

Also approximately how much would one pay each year for the fee in canadian dollars. I keep throwing this idea around, as hubby will retire in a few years and it would be nice to have somewhere to go. Can someone explain how you get ahead by buying into it, rather than just pay disney or rent points from someone for the 5 days. Thanks,

Deb.

Yep, you have to pay in US funds.

We own 160 points at BCV, and yes, our maintenance fees run about that, more or less.

You would receive -if you bought the minimum points from DVD, 150 points every year..for a total of 300 points to use for your every two years vacation. For example, a studio at OKW in Adventure season costs 8 points/night, Sun-Thurs..and 20 points/night(??) for Friday and Saturday..So for your $1200 in maintenance fees, you could stay onsite ot OKW for...hmmm...3+weeks:) You could do that for the next 35 years or so...and willable to your kids.

It depends on the exchange rate how much you'll have to pay every year...keep in mind as well, that you don't have to buy from Disney itself...there's a resale market....and you don't have to buy the 150 point minimum...you can buy a contract with as little as 25 points.

If you live in Ontario, it's easy, and no pressure to buy from DVD. (Disney Vacation Development) If you live elsewhere in Canada, you have to be in WDW to buy OR...buy resale:)

Does that make it as clear as mud?;)

Feel free to ask away:) You can also PM me if you'd like:)

Hi: Thanks for the answers. I can see why people buy into it. But I think I would like to try it by renting first, or at least next time we are in wdw take a look at the different dvc resorts and rooms. Something new to think about.

Do people get better deals buying a small amount of points from resales?

1 other thing to remember is that yes, maintenance fees do go up, but so do the room rates at Disney. With DVC if it costs say 130 points to rent for a week at whatever resort, 40 years from now it will still be 130 points.. how much will rooms (especially deluxe!) be in 40 years? Who knows, but DVC can't change the points (they can juggle them a bit, but they can't increase them (long story, but an easy explanation)) :)

We purchase site unseen at the Wilderness back in 2000. After one visit we were so impress that when BCV came out, we added on points there. The only thing we reget is that we did not buy earlier.

Compare to other timeshare, DVC is one of the most expensive one around. You can buy at Hilton or other timeshare in Orlando much cheaper. But if you want to immerse yourself in the total Disney experience, DVC is the way to go. But on the other hand, if you are not a Micky fan, then DVC is not be for you.
