She had this special show on, which showed her going to South Africa and throwing a big party for orphan children.
She gave each child a new pair of shoes, new clothes, a new toy, and just this fantastic party that they will likely always remember.
I nearly cried! These kids literally have nothing! They have lost their parents for one reason or another (mostly to AIDS). They were so happy for what they received. I remember seeing this one boy who opened his present (a soccer ball) and just this look of pure joy on his face.
It just got me thinking of how rich we are in this country, even the poor in this country, compared to them. We can do so much more. It made me feel like all this Christmas shopping I've been doing is all just a waste...giving to people who won't appreciate it, things that they don't need, when really they probably need some warmth, a hug, and to know they are loved and needed.
Count your blessings this year, everyone!
