I was just wondering if anyone brings groceries on their checked luggage. We fly Southwest and are allowed extra luggage for free. I have always ordered deliveries from Garden Grocer but they no longer have my husband's necessary to live drink-dt Sunkist. So I thought I might just bring them along with a few breakfast items. Has anyone done this and how did it work?

Why only non-liquid?

I'd rather not chance them breaking in the luggage. Plus, what I would bring (milk, OJ, etc.) is perishable. I used to ship cases of water from Staples (probably can do Amazon now), but the gift shop has small cases of water too. Plus, I'd get a refillable mug for soft drinks and iced tea.

Yes and I do pack bottles of cold brew. I wrap them in bubble wrap and place them inside gallon Ziploc bags. I also pack a Tupperware with snacks and tea bags and such. Love Southwest!

we brought quite a bit when we headed to disney just before a hurricane. even brought a case of water - had a hard time getting the weights ok - lol.

liquids == put into ziplocs
dont be surprised is luggage opened by TSA (even checked)

Do I need to wrap the cans of Sunkist or are they ok but themselves?

I probably would not do anything with the waters - we didn't.
the cans I might just in case. if one explodes - yikes...

liquids we put into bags were things like condiments, etc.

I wouldn’t worry about cans. They should be fine. Like pp said you can put them in Ziplocs just in case. I bring bags of all sizes on trips, so it’s something already getting packed anyway.

Depending on season and what else is on plane, I try not to pack anything that can explode. Soda will freeze around 18 degrees farenheit and will burst open when the soda starts to freeze. The bottom of the plane could be colder depending what is being shipped.

Baggage compartments on SW flights (like most all other carriers) are pressurized and temperature controlled. Not the same temperature as the passenger cabin, but certainly above freezing (should be no lower than about 45 degrees).

Nothing should freeze or explode due to pressure in the baggage compartment.

We bring my husbands fave soda from Pennsylvania all the time... and yes i have that note that says TSA was here inside my bag.
