After being adamant that I would not drive, I am thinking about hiring a car.:confused3 I was chatting to another Diser who shall remain nameless but who has recently reappeared on the boards and she has made me rethink. lol

Would anyone like to help me get a competitive quote? I've read through the other thread but this is a whole new concept for me!

My 'needs':

Cheap
Prefer delivery to resort as I WILL be getting the ME from the airport.
2 adults, 3 children
I will not be driving anywhere but within Disney
1 named driver - me
Arrive: 29th Oct
Departure: 12th Nov, although I would consider getting rid of the car on 11th so we could be up and out in the morning and not have anything to think about.
Quite like the idea of a full tank of petrol and not having to return it full.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to help.:goodvibes

Oh no Tracey's been back a day and she's changing people's minds already :lmao:

Wayne will be best regarding quotes (weve always booked car with flights so we didn't have to pay the whole lot up front) but I believe you can hire a car onsite at a few locations (swan/dolphin I think and is there one at MK?) I think through Alamo.

We always get a car, even when onsite - I just don't like wdw buses - and wouldn't do anything but. Driving is so easy over there in the automatics you get :)

lol, how did you guess it was Tracy?:rotfl:
I am a terrible driver Luke, so it will need to be easy. Will I need a satnav to get from OKW to the rest of Disney?

Honestly, I was a bit worried first time I drove but you get used to it within an hour!!

I have used Sat Nav's at Disney but anywhere you'd ever want to go is pretty well signposted, just make sure you familiarise yourself with everything's location in case a signpost isn't there at any point (like knowing where resorts are in relation to parks - swan/dolphin near Epcot for example :) )

just to have a base for comparison

alamo, rack rate (book on uk site) pick up and drop off at Disney car care center (gas station at the exit of TTC/MK) they pick you up, free shuttle if you call them to arrange for pick up.
from 29 oct through 12 nov

fullsize car : £345.98

standard SUV : £421.98

satnav ? ... errr ... no unless you get lost in your own kitchen, I guess you'll be fine in WDW (you could also take your own satnav and buy the USA/florida map) that would probably come cheaper than renting a satnav from the rental agency

I'm pretty sold on the idea of a car at the moment. I have been driving since 1990, and I drive every day. I'm just not the world's best driver. I avoid turning right if I can - that says everything you need to know about my levels of skill. lol

If you hire with alamo you can collect from the car care centre onsite (nr MK).

We've done this before and it was super easy - you call and alamo pick you up in a shuttle bus and take you to get the car. In reverse they will drop you at your hotel/a park.

eg you could just hire a car for the weekend to go shopping if you want.

well ... don't worry, in the US your right turns will be far more easy :)

now what about left turns ... :rotfl:

I was about to say that too :lmao:

Also get yourself familiar with the slightly different rules of the road, such as turn right at a red light etc :)

I love driving out there, we had an awful car accident here in 2010 with girls in car and i was so worried about going back out there driving last year but ut was alt easier than here i found

Been driving out there since i was 21 so 10years now and would hate to be without a car

Have you tried usrentacar i think you can pick up at swan. We have a intermediate suv from 1-15th for 302 thats with full tank but picking ip at airport

Just to add if you have your heart set on going on a blue and cream magical express they sometimes swap for the cruise line one (yes I know it still gets you there but I had my heart set on the real one and was a touch disappointed :sad2:)

Thanks everyone.
Yes, I should find turning right in the US a little easier lol.
EVERYONE tells me that it's easy to drive over there and that I would cope. I have always had a 'can't do' attitude about driving (and some other things) and I am trying to change that.:thumbsup2

Now, it's just the price...
I want cheap/basic. I have been looking and I have found one for £231. Can I get that any lower?

I have used these details so you can compare prices between Alamo UK and the link I am finding best prices recently. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/othe...e/734198-holidayautos-discount-worldwide.html

Link gives 15% off Holiday Autos regular price plus details how to get 10% Quidco as well.
Fullsize £252.45 less 10% Quidco = £227.50

Std SUV £307.70 less 10% Quidco = £276.93

You have the choice then about gas, pre-pay at the desk and return empty or return full, I opted to return full, you lose out pre-paying, not that it matters that much, maybe costs an extra $20 but I prefer that money in my pocket than theirs.

Thanks everyone.

I hate driving in UK, love it over there, wider roads, larger parking spaces. Yuo will be fine.

If you want cheapest most basic car the link shows 2 dr eco at £196.35 less Quidco = £176.71
Your choice but for an extra £51 I would go for a full size, far more comfortable. Or an Intermediate SUV 4dr at £1 cheaper than Fullsize.

Thanks Wayne. I'm not too bothered about comfort for 2 weeks lol. I drive a 7 seater at home, so I don't mind a big car but I want to spend as little as possible.:)

Off to have a nosey now...

*sigh* and now I've had a look and actually like the fullsize for £227. The smallest economy one for £176 doesn't fit 5 people anyway.

I am so easily swayed, it's embarrassing lol.

So, if I pick up at DTD, I take it, it's an easy drive back to OKW? I was thinking we would got to WPE for a cs on our first evening there anyway, so could pick up the car at the same time.

Is there a petrol station at DTD? How much will a full tank cost me? I want to know how much this additional 'luxury' is going to cost me in total lol.

For 5 people plus luggage I would not consider anything less than full size, you might get away with intermediate if you are not using it much but for difference in cost I just don't think its worth struggling.

Its not at DTD, the Care Car centre is near Magic Kingdom, just a few minutes from OKW.

You won't need a petrol station when collecting, all cars come full of petrol, the difference is when you return, pre-pay and you return empty, don't pre-pay and you return it full.
As said above you ring them to collect you and take you to the care care centre, personally I have never done it, I prefer to get the car at the airport, I dislike buses, even if it has got Mickey Mouse on the window.:rotfl:
A tank of gas in fullsize will be about $50 (£30) if you fill yourself. If you prepay at the desk they will charge you about $60 because they charge you for a tank size by manufaturers spec, say 18 gal. In reality you never use the last 1-2 gal so you are paying for somthing you won't/can't use.

We have collected from the car care centre twice now as we really like how relaxed taking ME makes our arrival.

It is really easy - I usually call about an hour before we want collecting but you can set it up the day before - tell them the resort and they will be there at the time they tell you. We always collect the day after we arrive otherwise to us it defeats the object of using ME. We return to the airport as we check in for the flight home online and ME would get us there way too early ;)

Getting around Disney is easy - no sat nav required there are big purple signs everywhere giving you directions :thumbsup2

Also you have no worries about left turns as there are very few junctions with out lights :)

I am definitely not driving from or to the airport. I am certain about that.;) I quite like the idea of returning the car empty as then I won't have to think about re-fuelling. The Quidco discount is for August pick-ups, so the price might be a bit higher.

Right, I won't need a sat-nav then.
I think you have a very good point about picking up the day after you arrive - can't seem to get a price for this though. Will try again.

If you are taking it back to the Car care centre there is a Hess station right next to it. Return to airport you can fill up at Hess DTD and it still shows full when you get to the airport, I always fill up there before coming home.

Quidco I priced up correctly, 10%. For August its 15%.:thumbsup2
