I'm thinking about getting tickets to both events, for us and our 3 children (13, 10 and 2).

What is the event like? Is it fun? Is it worth it?

Thanks for your info and advice!

We went to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party last year and loved it. I would go back in a heart beat. It was really neat to see the characters dressed up and see characters that you don't normally see. We loved trick or treating and did it for most of the night. We had a ADR for dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern so we got to stay in the park. They kept us in one land but opened some of the trick or treat spots early. We LOVED LOVED the parade and fireworks. We got our picture taken and they send you a copy. There were dancing spots and cool decorations. I would say go.

I posted this in another thread this morning re MNSSHP (my kids were six and seven). But I'm one of the few here who holds this option:

We went last year and it wasn't worth the money. It would be worth every penny if your kids could stay up until 10 or 11 and were "Mountain" riders (mine will ride BTMRR, but that is it) - no lines at all on the Mountains. The parade was cute. There was lots of Trick or Treating, but my kids get plenty of candy from October through Easter. It starts at seven and my kids bedtime is 8:30 - and they were pretty tired from being at Disney. We kept them up to see the fireworks (my son was doing better than my daughter) and left right after the fireworks. So we spent $120 or something for a little candy, a parade, two rides on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a trip through the Haunted Mansion, a showing of Mickey's Philharmagic (and the rides we had no problem knocking off during the day) and fireworks we could have seen from the beach at the Poly. The logistics of costumes was difficult. Then they were wiped the next day.

My family was offered a chance to go to Night of Joy in Sept. 2004. Due to the low ticket sales (hurricanes) Disney offered tickets to resort guests. I think we only had to pay something like $13. We enjoyed the evening but we didn't participate in any of the "Nights" events. We got to ride alot of rides, with minimum crowds (I'm sure it was due to Hurricanes) and we were able to visit the characters in the judge's tent pretty much by ourselves.

We have been to both in the past. The kids might have more fun at MNSSHP unless they enjoyed the singers for Night of Joy. There also seemed to be more families at the halloween party whereas NOJ has lots of teenagers running around.
