I will be there on Friday, May 20th, which is the first day of the SWW. We won't really be there for the Star Wars stuff, but that is the only day that we will be able to go to MGM. I was curious if the park is extremely crowded and impossible to get around. I read somewhere that the majority of the people there stick to the Star Wars events, so the waiting times for rides isn't really too much longer. Did this seem to be the case?

We will only be at WDW for 2 full days, so on the 20th, we will be doing both MGM and AK. I had originally planned to do AK in the morning and MGM in the afternoon, but now that I know it is SWW, I think we will do MGM in the morning, AK in the afternoon, the back to MGM in the evening (after AK closes) for dinner and Fantasmic. Does that sound do-able (is that a word?)?

Anyone know what the travel time is between MGM and AK? We are staying on-site, and we also have our own car, so we can drive if the bus would take too much longer.

We went for SWW weekends in 2000 and 2001 and most people there for SW stuff mainly stayed over by Star Tours but I would say that it might increase crowds by a little but not so much that I would change days.

The travel time between AK and MGM is probably no more than 10-15 minutes from parking lot to parking lot.

Hope this helps.... :)

Have to agree with us, it was mostly by the star wars stuff.

I agree as well. The Star Tours area will be more crowded that usually, especially during the Jedi Trials and Trivia Contests. Also, in the past they've have special shows of WWTBAM that are Star Wars specific. That can make the regular shows a little more crowded. Oh... and the Star Wars parade can add some crowding.

The Sunset area doesn't seem to be affected. SWW are actually the only time of the year when the rope drop crowd turns left instead of right @ Sunset. ;)

I'm really not sure on the travel time between MGM & AK. I haven't done that bus trip lately. Anyone have an idea on that question?

I've marched in the SWW parades (I'm part of a costuming club and we're invited to march), so I've been there the last 3 years during SWW. MGM is only a tad bit more crowded than normal...they're there for the parade in the morning (about 11am) and then they all move over to Star Tours to meet characters and participate in different activities.

I've been to SWW and crowds really only exist around SWW themed events. Other attractions are around normal, if not lower than normal.

We went for the first time last year and the boys wanted to see Bear and Lil Mermaid before going over, so for the longest time, I was thinking that the storm troopers on the entrance overheads was about it! Then we walked over to Star Tours area and viola, THAT is where everyone was.

You will have fun there on those days no matter what and there are plenty of ways around the Star Tours area so you don't have to get into that crowd unless you choose.

We'll miss the SWW's by a couple of weeks. Will the Star Wars merchandise still be available? :hourglass

The special merchandise is only available on event days. DH found this out the hard way when he decided to put off buying something until our last day, a Monday between SW weekends. None of the merchandise was available; they pack it up on Sunday night and don't put it back out again until after close on Thursday, and it is gone for good after close on the last Sunday.

SW stuff in general is always available in Tatooine Traders, but the commemorative items are only there on the event days.

Thanks for the info, guys. We have ONE day in the parks, and I want to take DD21mos. to see Playhouse Disney. We'll probably just pop over there for the show in between MK and AK (oh, and naptime!)...

AK closes at 7PM that day. I would do AK then MGM so you can then go to Fantasmic. If you are onsite you can also go to AK's extra morning hour, at 8AM. Go at 8AM then by early afternoon head to MGM.

We ended up at MGM for a while last year during SW weekend, and didn't even know it until we took a wrong turn and ended up in that area! It was a nightmare trying to get through there, with so many characters and people, but the rest of the park was just like always.

I wouldn't let that keep you at all!
