We are sailing on our second eastern on 4/5/03 and this time we want to visit Magen's Bay beach (saw it from high a top a mountain on the island tour - it looked spectacular). Has any one done this for the day? Is there a DCL excursion for it? Any recommendations? How did you get there from the ship? :earsboy:

We were there in January. It was myself, DW, and DD 8. We took a taxi from the ship. It was about $6 per person. We shared the ride over with another couple. There are plenty of taxis at the beach waiting to take you back to the ship so you don't need the taxi to return at a set time of 2 in the afternoon or whatever. The beach is beautiful. You can rent chairs, floats, etc. We ordered sandwiches from room service the night before so we would have a lunch with us on the beach.

Yes, we visited Magens Bay on our trip. We rented a car. there were 6 of us, PLUS a baby. We also went to St. John on a car ferry in our car. Depending on what you want to get out of your time there, if you're looking for great snorkeling, SKIP it. If you just want a beautiful beach to relax on, it's perfect. There IS some decent snorkeling off to the far side by the rocks, but that is it. Nothing that won't take you just about 15 minutes to get a good look at. We saw a rock fish, an octopus, and several of those "blow" fish, the ones that puff up.. Then other smaller ones with some color.. If you want snorkeling, go to Trunk Bay, St. John! GREAT! But, I've read other people on these boards say Coki beach was good snorkeling on St. Thomas.

Magen's Bay is a nice beach to lay out on and very calm waters. Taxi was $6.00 a person (one way) but I talked them into $3.00 for my 7 year old. It also costs about $3.00 a person to get into the Magens Bay area but they didn't charge for the kids (not sure what the age cutoff is for this). Very relaxing area and wasn't crowded at all when we were there in June. Waitress walks around taking drink orders which is always a plus.

We weren't charged a fee though, except for our lounges. The taxi took us to the central hub w/ main restaurant, restrooms, rentals. We were doing the $20 pp fair where you have the taxi all day. He first took us to Coki & then we had him come back after a few hours to take us to Magen.

It was a clean & relaxing beach. There were trees around for shade as well as lots of flat sunny areas, & gentle waves. All sorts of water toys were available (wind surfers, snorkels, etc.) for a fee. It appeared to be an all-inclusive resort for those staying there - a sandwich buffet was being served to them & all water toys were free if you were staying there also. We went to a fast food type restaurant there down the beach from the main area. Very pricey little $8.50 burgers for the kids...

Very upscale, secluded area compared to the fun, excursion to coki -- both were beautiful sites - great! I loved St. Thomas.

It's a gorgeous beach... one of the world's most beautiful (<i><a href="http://www.vibj.com/phototour/pt-02.htm"><font color=blue>photo</font></a></i>), but if you want to snorkel, you should go to Coki Beach (<i><a href="http://www.vibj.com/phototour/pt-05.htm"><font color=blue>photo</font></a></i>).
