Anyone been to Kazakhstan?

DH and I are preparing to travel there possibly this summer to adopt our son. And was curious is anyone else has been there,
we've been told to pack dark colored clothing se that we will fit in.
I'm wondering about restaurants...American style. Searches on the net haven't given me the info I was looking for.
What about the long flight, we plan to take a gameboy, book, word search, cross stitch (if the needle will pass ) anything else?
Any info would be great, we are eager for any travel like info anyone has.
